dunno :? 1st thing is you need a live connection and a home network. then im stuck
Offline
why would you need live to connect to your computer?

Offline
you need to be connected to the internet and the ethernet has to be in the 360 so therefore you have to be signed into live.
I cant do it with the way im set up so i dont bother
Offline
that's idiotic! why would they make you sign on live for something like that? stupid microsoft!

I'm not entirley sure but I had a look today. There is a media centre suite you download for the pc that allows a connection to your pc.
Therefore you should be able to strem movies and music from your pc. Well at least thats the way I understand it.
Look at the media menu on your 360. That gives you the web address for the download.
Good luck and please post your results.

yea, that's what i was thinking, so i got a little worried when i saw those posts about having live

Offline
Yeah, why would you have to connect over the internet in order to stream or transfer files over a local network?
I'm pretty sure thats all you need.

Have you set it up and can definately confirm this?
just check the help on xbox.com and you will see what i mean

well when you try to do it with the unupdated version, it tells you to go to the site and download the patch, as well as the program itself for the pc. so it doesn't make much sense for it to require live, but i haven't checked the site, so i can't really say

Offline
same with me. i'm just going with what i read, i dont know for sure. :?

well i'd rather judge on experience, but i'm too lazy to try

I tried last night, and here is what I found.
I couldn't get my pc to see my xbox. But I beleive that may be due to my switcher as I have disabled all but 1 firewalls which allows media connect to run. But it was late and I couldn't be bothered resetting everything, so I'll try again tonight.
There is nothing that says you require live, but without windows media centre installed on your pc you can only stream music an pictures.
So you'll need windows media centre on your pc to stream video. That is all up to personal opinion, and I dont think I would use that enough to warrant dropping xp pro.
Its up to you though.
Good luck.

I understood that even though it was a local network, the PC must have an internet connection. This is where Live comes in because if you have your PC connected to your 360 with the PC having to be online, the 360 will automatically go online as well.

From everything I have gathered (although, my 360 wasn't recognised by the pc) you need the internet to download media connect and thats about it.
Of course, with the media centre pc you can stream from the internet then stream to the 360. As far as I could see there was nothing that said your 360 NEEDED live.
I spent about 2 hours trying to do this last night, reading up on all the trouble shooters etc. but again, I didn't connect, and I do have live so either way when it does work it'll be alright except without windows media centre I can only get music and photos

well i'm sure whenever somebody that has the time to do this (if i actually get time, i'll do it), and figures this out, it'll be posted to answet further questions

Yeah, or possibly raise some, lol. I'm off today so I'll try it again, see what happens.

are you gonna try it wireless or with the ethernet cable?
Offline
I'm gonna have to do it with ethernet. I dont have wireless as I am waiting for A compatibility to come down in price.
The problem with b and g is that they get too much interference from microwaves etc. and slow things right down. And with the amount of online play I do, I don't wanna get lag while in game...
I'll tell you something though, the wireless controllers (I assume) interfere with my television (cable), it could be the 360 I suppose but not sure. I only know this because the 360 goes through the projector so the missus can watch tv 8)
Anyway, still not got it sorted yet, but it WILL happen and I'll post results here. Someone else could try in the meantime though...

Have you downloaded the tutorial from marketplace? that seemed pretty helpful but i'm still unable to connect
Offline
i downloaded the tut from microsoft website but yeah it wasn't much use.
In fact, it told me nothing I didn't already know, although it did convince me to get a A pipe wireless router
Anyway, I still can't connect either. Have you checked all your firewalls? Im unsure if I got all mine to be honest. I recently built this new pc and the motherboard came with built in nVidia firewall that I cant seem to get too. Plus I changed from Norton to McAfee, so not entirley sure how thats all working, ontop of the windows firewall.
Its too much I tell you.
So I'll try again when I get a chance, (could be the switcher, need to totally power off everything, then power on again, in a specific order for the switcher to re-assign ip's) Hope thats the case anyway, else I'm all out of ideas.
Well good luck.
