OK i have a premium with hdmi, its relatively new (bought used) as far as i know its never been hacked. its still stock.
i found i have a Lite-on drive.
so
i have seen the need for probes and connectivity kits, serial connetions.
and this http://www.360mods.net/tutorial/Textbook.pdf
showing i dont need anything but my sata controller, and a power cord...
i have seen support for intel sata controllers and nvidia and via...
so before i do something stupid to my xbox...
i want to get the lowdown.
im a computer tech so i have a computer w/ a nvida sata controller, (its a server, and id rather not use it)
but my on-board intel controller on another computer, is all set up to do this, if there is support...
so what i am asking is,
can i flash my lite-on with my intel sata controller? without a probe or connectivity kit, with the drive connected to the xbox power (as in the 360 mods guide), and without a serial connection (rs232)?
oi, and is there a tutorial for that?

The probe or serial kit is for the KEY, you need it, for a certain VERSION Lite-On. The latest models are done all software; the first versions used requires the hardware.
If you do not have a compatible SATA chipset, you can't begin.
The connectivity kit is an OPTION, you can power the drive with the XB360, but there will be a flag saved that the 360 was powered on, and no DVD drive was detected. This is called an ANOMALY, and will be transmitted to the XBL servers any chance it gets - if connected to the internet, logged in to live or not. This is a common anomaly that has to do with modding, which is why they are tracking them.

thanks for clearing that up. where is, or is there a current list of supported chipsets, as most lists are almost a year old if not more. has there been any change in support?
so, basically i never want to log into live. (which i dont) and theres no other real reason to have the xbox on the network. then i dont have to have the connectivity kit.
also for instructions doing this is the ben-q drive instructions, in all intents and purpose, the lite-on drive?
so the last question i have, is the one drive that needs the probe... what model is it? and that is the only drive that needs the probe correct?
Thanks again!

Someone posted the models earlier, I would have to search for it... I was at least within a week...
