Like at the store can you tell by serial number or anything which drive is in there?
Or do you only know after you buy it and look inside?

It is NOT the 360 itself that is hard or easy to hack, it is the DVD DRIVE!

Your link did not help unless i need to read every word of all theses links if so thats my fault I thought a forum was get answers quickly. Sorry I took up tour time!

Oh, sorry, I see you want to identify the drive with an UNOPENED unit? Then no, there is no way, but you can use DEDUCTIVE REASONING, knowing which drive is currently used in Xbox360, to figure it out. If you want to know what drive is in it after you opened it? The tutorials show you...
Currently they are using the LiteOn drive. One requires hardware, one does not, and you won't know that till you open the case and look inside...

That's what I wanted to know thanks.

the only "hard" drive to hack is the stupid lite-on that requires you to have a stuipd 50 dolla key extractor
so any early lite-on's avoid
the new ones 83---c lite-ons are easy as well and dont need that probe ck3 shit
so anyways

I bougt a new xbox 360 with 20gb HD the other week. Did not have HDMI, and it was an old 78FK drive - as easy as it could get, and the price reflected it was an old model. The Hitachi 78 is very easy to mod, but the drive itself only reads the very best disks. Therefore I ended up changing the drive for for 79 model from a machine that got the graphics chip fault and I had overheated the 5 try to get if fixed.
My best experience has been the samsung drive in my first machine, but that is hardly availeble anywhere any longer.

WHAT! BS, I have a Hitachi 78FK and so far all my backups have been successful; and I used a bunch of cheap 8.5GB discs made somewhere in China.

We are not here to educate you, thats your teachers job..
We are not here to hold your hand and prechew answers for you, expecting us to show you the short cuts that we have taken the work to figure out is not fair to us. People make shit loads of money everyday for just what you are wanting us to do... I mean if you have shit loads of money then by all means ill prechew every answer for you.. hell I will even eat the entire stake and let you know how it tasted...
The fact of the matter is that forums are not made for quick answers, they are a great way for people to discus useful things via a bulletin board system. Not to mention that even in the short amount of time I have been here, there is a shit load of people that come in make an account to get a quick answer about something that if they would have taken the exact question they put in the forum in google, they would have gotten a shit load of better answers, and even saved others time. PLUS YOU GET TO EDUCATE YOUR SELF!
I can not for the life of me understand why on earth people have such a lack of respect for learning? I mean, come on... its not like it takes any rocket science to learn this stuff.. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ!!!!! Yes if you are a slow or poor reader it might take you longer to digest larger amounts of information, but hey that is the great thing about life, not everyone is the same.
If you want direct and easy answers ask your mother, other wise take the time to do the research and ask us specific questions only after you have attempted something your.

Actually, if you want to flash the drive, then that matters. If you want to JTAG; Xenon is the easiest ONLY because of some points are easier to get soldered. Before June of 2009 I believe is the cutoff for "exploitable" systems. HOWEVER, systems sent in for repair are sometimes updated and have the new bootloader (stops JTAG). Every DVD drive is, or is on the way to being "flashable." Depends on what you want to do also. With no XBL; JTAG and XBR is the way to go (more options). You can easily get banned on XBL with any modification. Cat and mouse game of "find the checks" and "put in new checks" lol. Want to play that game? If rich, get two systems; one for homebrew, the other for legit games and XBL.
