If you hack your xbox360, can you "unhack" it?
Is it possible to capture the state of the xbox, or DVD firmware, such that you can restore that pristine unhackedness? It would be very useful to be able to hack it, play a few games offline for awhile, then unhack, get the latest updates, and wait for the new hacks and workarounds.
I'm thinking of the PC world wher you can take/restore system images at will (including bios), which is immensely useful.

Yes, you flash it with the original firmware dump, put the keys back in. Basically, you go through the entire flash process, but use OEM firmware.
If you want to do what you say, then why not just buy a chip, and switch in on/off instead? You will end up, by accident, bricking your drive, as the odds are against you with the process of going back and forth like that. I would not do that, and I am sure many other people would tell you the same.

I didn't know you could buy a chip... I thought those had all been outlawed. Do you install the chip in the 360 and somehow switch during boot, or do you have to manually change the chips?
I *just* got the 360 and am amazed at how much information there is to know on this hacking subject. Bear with me:)

It is all DVD drive related. The chip installs -via- wires, and you can switch a power line off and on. They have some original disc detection and shut off automatically. Any mods you do to play backups, will be for the DVD drive, no console anything.

the way i look at it, soft mod your 360 and bank 300 bucks JIC. i mean the cost of 5 new games is essentially the price of a 360 give or take. The best idea in my opinion would be to have 2 360s 1 being a hack 360 and one left stock.
