So i got the 3rlod. I took the xbox apart, cleaned the leftovers of the thermal paste that microsoft put, I put some new arctic silver thermal paste... Nothing happens. Still 3rlod. So I did the "eraser mod". Still nothing. So I did the xclamp fix. Still nothing - only the 3rlod.
I have a good technical talent and I do a lot of this stuff and I'm sure I did everything fine.
Did someone (like me) here couldn't fix the 3rlod? Can it be that my console is dead???

bin it its fried sorry fella. xclamp fix does work when you over heat the cpu/gpu to reball the chips. if this has not worked bin it or sell it for spares

So I am screwed after all. Oh well... I guess it's a sign for me to go and buy an elite ![]()

Besides that, you are NOT the only one to get screwed, approx. 13% of Xb360 owners are in, or WERE in the same boat as you.
Offline
I don't think it's got fried because when I got the 3rlod it was in the morning after I played the night before and i didn't have any malfunctions...
Is there something that can be noticed when the cpu or gpu fries? Cause I sure didn't smell anything ![]()
Powerslave - If what you are saying is true than wow! It's a pretty high percent... 13% of the launch consoles (assuming all launch consoles will get 3rlod) with that serious defect
M$ really messed up at launching the console.
Offline
Yes, it is THAT HIGH, but overall, it is as high as 33% for the total in overall failures. That is the worst record in history for a product of this sorts.

same thing happened to one of my buddies, got the 3 red lights, so i did the x-clamp fix, worked a few days then the red lights surfaced again! did the eraser trick, played with his xbox 360 for weeks in the office to test it out, gave it back to him, 2 weeks later........... 3 red lights!
so redid everything over again but the console was 'bye bye'! at the end of the day he just got himself a new xbox 360!
so don't worry, your not the only one! his died too!

I modded my xbox and I knew my warranty will be void and I took a chance by doing it. Well... I'm screwed. But what about all these people who will have the 3rlod and didn't mod their xbox. The 3 years warranty will soon be over... I feel sorry for these guys who will have to pay because m$ are careless

That's really the risk you take with buying and modding Xbox 360s. It is always just a matter of time before you get that red ring. If PS3 does eventually overtake Xbox 360, it will be because of the practically non-existant failure rates.
I've had my PS3 since March 2007, used it almost every day, and never had a single problem ^^.

yeah, but failure rates have dropped a lot the past couple of months, and i think M$ have solved the red light issue.

i wouldn't say M$ are careless, they've made a lot of bad decisions no matter what people say! but yeah maybe extend the warranty on launch (2005-2006) consoles wouldn't be a bad idea!

It will be interesting if m$ will extend the warranty even after the 3 years have past! If they'll give unlimited warranty for the 3rlod then they will be fair with their customers. After all the 3rlod is their mistake no? Why should the customers pay for it? They will lose customers for Sony. Why should people buy the same console which died on them?

i actually agree! once the issue is solved there is no reason for people to get 3 red lights, alas no need for M$ to worry ![]()

Doesn't really matter if they fixed it. A 1/3 of them died. Thats a big frack up. Over on PS3-hacks we've heard of maybe 3-5 people with problems

of course it matters if they fixed it! if they didn't no one would buy their console because they'd be scared to death to switch it on, and the PS3 came out almost a year after the 360, that's a lot of time to fix important issues and flaws! regardless we all know Sony has good products!....................................... but i still love my Xbox 360 ![]()

ERIFNOMI makes a very good point. The vast majority of Xbox 360 users I know, have had problems with every console they have bought since launch. This alone reveals the size of the problem.
All these people who have had constantly failing consoles are not about to go out and buy the same product again. Microsoft has officially lost these customers. They may well have solved the RRoD problem, however many thousands of consoles today are still vulnerable to the same issue. With the amount of time it takes for shops to sell old stock, pre-owned consoles to be sold, and the newly fixed versions to appear on shelves, it may be too late to save.

My cousin just bought a PS3. I think the xbox 360 is much better and I tried to explain him but he said he's afraid of the 3rlod... especially after it happened to my console! So he bought a PS3. well... m$ messed up. I think there are many people/customers like my cousin who wanna buy xbox 360 but they are just don't trust it to work properly...
Offline
I got both a 360 and PS3. IF the game is for BOTH consoles, I buy the 360 one. IF it is a PS3 exclusive, then, well I got to buy it for PS3.
Exceptions to that rule? PS3/XBOX360 games that are 9.99, I buy. I got Conan for PS3 for 9.99, its OK I guess...

You should get a ps3 Vincent so I can school you on some Tekken ![]()

I have both. I have an older 360 and an early PS3 60GB model. Most people I know that have a 360 have had 3LOD at least once. No one I know that has a PS3 has had a problem (well only one of my friends USB ports work but the xbox only has one usb port anyway.) I am a little afraid when my xbox makes weird noises or freezes. I don't think I have the warranty because I bought it used and opened it. I'm never worried about my PS3 and nothing bad has happened (knock on wood) but if it did I'd be out nearly $700 and they don't make the model I have anymore (also known as the best model made)
