updating Xtremebootmaker 5.3 guide
head over to here http://www.x-projects.org/core/news.php
download the fix for xbm 5.3 see pic where to look 
just unzip and replace/overwrite the 5xDef.xml in the xbm folder 
the new 5.3 firmware will work with Xtremebootmaker 5.3 now
a couple of pple sent me Pm's saying it will not load the new firmware
so i made this little guide hope it helps

it should have worked m8
i tryed it again just to make shore its right and it worked fine
try downloading it all again the xbm and the update file unzip them delete the old 5xDef.xml file
then copy&paste the new one in the xbm folder then run xbm it should work now

Well still no luck
I thought it might be because of vista, so i tried under XP (a fresh new install of xbm) and still the same result.
Just to be sure, the firmware file is supposed to be named Xtreme53.rar right ?

This is happening to me as well. On the xtreme forums they tell you a regedit to do as well, but it still refuses to load 5.3 firmware for me. The regedit won't work unless you have a firmware already loaded, but then as soon as you try to load 5.3 the regedit goes back to normal. Strange, and annoying.

this is happening to me aswell, ive updated the file but still no luck. its doing my head in because i cant load the xtreme52 aswell, 50 seems to load, but my xbox is having trouble playing some backups with this firmware. any suggestions? im on xp!

sorry to bump that thread but still can't make it work.
I downloaded xtremeboot maker 0.5.3 rc3, i can load iXtreme 1.0 firmware but not iXtreme 1.2 or Xtreme 5.3
If anyone can help me, i got a lot of "unreadable disc" lately because most of them are stealth patched (and i guess i need the right fw to play those).

Has anyone come up with a solustion to this yet? I too am having the same issue. I guess I'll keep trying different things.
Ohh nevermind, I found out they XBM is no longer supported and to use Iprep. Gotcha!

Anyone know where i can download the xtreme boot maker 5.3 rc3? i can only find rc1 and it dosen't have the restore disk feature
