When i started i had the ring of death. I bought the stuff i needed to fix, and it worked. Then all of a sudden while playing a game it gave me to red lights, and ejected the game while it was still spinning. Fine, no longer had ring of death. But now the tray doesn't open, close on its own. I can do it manuelly with the wheel in the front. I'e tried various things as checking the band in the front. I have another xbox i put that drive in and it opens and closes fine. i put the drive that doesn't open in the other xbox and the same it doesn;t respond. I see the laser moves forward and blinks twice, but the disks doesn't spin and the green light flashes in the front until it recognizes it all the way open or all the way closed. There is no noises from any where other then the laser.

In the end I guess my question is does anybody have a solution to this problem, other then the obvious (buy new drive and switching boards & buy new xbox). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

wow, nobody. Can anyone tell if I put a new drive and swicth the boards to keep the keys it will work that way?

did you check the motor? it could be that the motor has burnt out, therefore the disc isn't spinning!

Well, I took a risk and bought a brand new drive and switched the main board out to keep the key that matches my xbox. And the drives still does not spin or open. so it has to be the board, because when i put the new board the new drive opens closes and spins just fine.

So let change my question do you think i can still copy the key from the drive that doesn't open or spin and dump it on the new drive?

i think it'll be a 50-50 bet, if the drive does operate in some way with the old board then i think your chances are good, but you never know!

give it a shot, you have nothing to lose, personally i never had such a problem so i can't give any better feedback!

Thank you for replying. I finally finished up. I was actually still able to extract the firmware and flashed the new drive. That drive was weird, it tried to read disc cause the eye would flash red and move forward. But it wouldn't spin or open or close. I'm just grateful I was still able to extract the firmware. I think it had something to do with the main board of the drive. I've actually played for about a half hour and no two lights or ring of death like before.

not meaning to take sides or anything, but jace0014 did wait 12 days, his 1st post was on the 30th of Jan; then he posted a 2nd time on the 11th of Feb..... but yes, it does count as double posting!
