got the 3 red lights. screen froze at 2 secs. turned console off. waited 1 minute. turned console on, 3 red lights with error code 075. turned console off and waited 10mins. turned console on and console works, loaded a game. turned console on the next day, 3 red lights and nothing on the tv screen.
what could be the problem? what fix should i look into?
i dont think there is anything wrong with the flashed drive. if i wanted to keep the drive for another console would i need any info from the motherboard?
thanks

Just do the xclamp fix

the thing with the x-clamp is that it's good only for a period of time! it's a 50-50 chance that it will last for a long period of time.... or a short period of time, depends how quickly you do the x-clamp fix!
"the short period of time" happened to a friend of mine the other day, but that's because he was an idiot and he did the towel trick almost every second day for about 4 months before i took his box and did the x-clamp fix! we had the box in the office for 2 weeks and it was working great, he took it home and played with it for about a week before the 3 red lights reappeared!
i've encountered more successful x-clamp fixes than failures! so it's worth a try if the problem is fresh!

Sell it on Ebay, and buy a new Arcade Edition with the difference... Better than spending and spending to keep TRYING to get yours fixed. If you get 120.00 for it? Well, another 75.00 and you get a new one. That or spend 125.00 and send it to M$ for repair...

thanks for the replys. its a banned console so microsoft wont repair it. i have a arcade coonsole unflashed. i want to play my back ups on the banned one.
i see people sell xclamp kits for under £4 on ebay, some come with HQ paste?? is this what i need?
whats this guy talkin bout,
This is an example of what happens to nylon washers after only one month...
The original nylon washer is on the left (and is significantly smaller).

Don't go for the nylon type get all steel washers.
All you need is:
8 x 10mm long M5 bolts / 24 x M5 washers / 8 x M5 spring washers / arctic silver paste / cotton wool buds / white spirit

Arcade edition Xbox360 for 159.99 at Circuit City, if they have any left!!!

last questions before i buy the Xclamp kit.
i see on a video tutorial a guy drilling to fit the bolts in. the ebay ad im lookin at says no drilling required, so some kits come with bolts the right size?
do i need any other tools than the ones i needed to open up the xbox 360 when i flashed it?
which video tutorial would you recommend?
thanks for your replies

no you don't need to drill your case depends on the kit you buy, to be honest mate if you have a shop near you that sells this stuff go there as you can get enough to do 50 xclamp fixes for about £4 plus no waiting for them to come in the post.

hopefully i wont need to do 50 xclamp fixes.
which tutorial would you recommend?
cheers

They are all the same really any will do just remember to clean off all the old paste on both gpu and cpu, take your time don't rush it, use white spirt and cotton wool buds and just take your time

I brought a broken xbox for £20! Got some M5 bolts and washers from Screw fix for under £2.50 and some thermal paste from maplins for £7. Used my girlfriends cotton wool makeup removal pads and nail varnish to remove gunk of chips. It now works fine! I know it's a cheap console but they do seem a very poor quality build.

i recieved a kit with antec thermal grease, is there much difference between grease and compound?
Offline
anyone?
one other thing, how do i get my motherboard key out? just incase i f up the xclamp.
Offline
key is in the FW of your drive but if the mother board is knackered you will not need the key as you will need a new motherboard and that would need a different key for the drive. better to buy a new one

Offline
if my motherboard is unusable i want to be able to use my flashed dvd drive on another console. is that possible?
Offline
If you spoof it, but if you have to go to the trouble of spoofing it, why not just flash the drive in the new console?
Offline
i guess i could do that now that i know all the latest drives are flashable ![]()
does anyone know if its ok to use antec thermal grease?

thanks.
so i did the xclamp fix. dvd drive plugged in, fan unplugged, plugged in the av cable and the power. switched 360 on and got 3 red lights, after about a min or less i got 2 red lights. i can switch the console off with the power button. does this mean the console hasnt overheated?
heatsink dosen't feel too hot either.

before doing the xclamp fix did you get the 3 red lights?
the best thing for you to do is to make 100% sure that you've tightened the heat sinks tight and properly, then if you still get 2/3 red lights you should do the towel trick on it to over heat it and let it reset itself!

had the three red lights before the fix. the bolts are hand tightened at the mo. was getting some help from elsewhere, they told me to - plug the fan in and rest it ontop of the cpu heatsink, put the dvd drive in unplugged and turn the console on and leave it on for 20mins.
so i tried that and got the 2 red lights within a minute, the fan turned off at the same time. i turned the console off coz i wasnt sure if its safe to leave it on for the full 20mins.
after two red lights start to flash, what is the longest time i can have the console on?

forget the last post.
dragon-x you were right, all i had to do was tighten the bolts a little tighter.
360 is now working. hopefully it'll last a while.
Thanks to everyone that helped.
