well i falshed my 360 last october, and since then, i havent connected to xbox live. but yesterday i connceted to the LAN and i said i needed to update and download some things to be able to connect to live,, anywa i just dont wanna re-flash my 360 again, so is it safe to preform dahsboard updates after almost 5 months without connecting to live??

There was one update that TRIED to curtail the mods, but that was fixed by upgrading the firmware. No updates to date have not permanently caused a flash to fail, and it is not a failure of the flash, just a security measure to detect older versions. They also have not devised a way to have the dashboard reflash the firmware in the DVD drives, so that won't effect you either.

yes but i mean,, i haven't done dashboard updates since i bought my 360, i bought it back in july 2006, and i think the flash is one of the early ones.. so i really dont know,, i just dont want to open my 360 or else ill have to pay a friend of mine to do it, plus i dont have money now,, so.. i guess you guys are my only hope,,anyway has anybody has had trouble with the 360 when their console updated?? right now im fine (playing offline with backups), but i would be better i i could connect to live with my flashed 360. im really scared, well so my only question is, if i preform dashboard updates, would i still be able to play backups?? thankz for helping!

neah,, i just want to know if its safe,, i dont wanna mess up with my 360 again,, then if its safe, ill update,, if its not,, then i just stay like this,, offline without live...........

I flashed my 360, think it was in sep sometime so am using one of the earlier firmwares and I got the hitachi drive then i didnt accept any live updates from october cause i'd heard it was quite a big update and would void your account but went back on live today and accepted all the updates and its all been sorted so far, apart from me owing fracking microsft 15 quid haha cause my credit card had expired, haha bastards

so its safe to update then??? there is no need to worry??/ well the only thing is that if i update my dashboard, i will still be able to play backups on my 360 without needing to re-flash it... thanx bro

yeah mate I think u should be fine with playing your backups, i've tried all of mine and there all fine and xbox live seems to be fine but for how long who knows but as long us keep an eye on the latest firmware thats out and u will prob have to flash it again at some point if u wanna go live, cause I got someone to do mine for me so i'm probably gonna need a newer firmware at some point soon

yeah mate the cheeky fuckers dont stop your xbox live they just email u telling u that ur card has expired and carry on billing you so when u put in ur new credit card details they will have added up all the payments u missed and sting u so u better ask ur mum for her new credit card details but just dont tell her lol, good luck!!!
