For V1.6 and up, yes they are difficult. The other ones are pretty easy, with a small exception to V1.5 you need separate power and ground to the chip...

TSOP flashing is VERY easy on V1.2 to V1.5 - two jumpers on the top side of the mainboard, and your Flash is write enabled. People do show a 3rd jumper UNDER, but it is the same as the one jumper on top.

V1.0 to V1.1 needs more jumpers, ones with a sharp TSOP needs one additional wire.

V1.0 to 1.1 you can put 4 Bioses in the flash, they are 1MB, the 1.2 to 1.5 are 256k.

There is no TSOP or other flashable chip in V1.6+

I had one, well actually two, the first one I got when it first came out, ya know with the BIG controller? then I gave it away 2 my bro, the other one, I think I smoke in my apartment toomuch, because it stop working, lol it still play music but it stop reading the games CD, lolI think it got lung cancer

ya but I saw one at Gamestop it only like 120$, I should buyit just to hack, and maybe play good ol' school StreetFighter games, since Capcom too damn lazy/cheap to put it on the update playback list,

You can get XBox cheaper than 120.00 - I think they're 90.00 to 109.00 here at the Game Stop places. You do not want a V1.6 if you plan on modding it yourself, they are a real pain. Anything made at the end of 2003 and up are probably V1.6 and up.

Also, Camel, the reason yours kept failing was the Thompson DVD drive. They were the worst drive ever made for the Xbox. I have been through THREE drives (two thompson, and one phillips), and my friend, one thompson. I bought two Samsung replacements and they all still run today. I have bought two 2002 revision Thompsons, they, one I replaced for my friend, are still working. I only paid 19.99 plus shipping for the thompson drives, the Samsungs were upwards of 34.00 each... THAT is the only real problem with the Xbox, was with some of their DVD drives, Thompson and Phillips. My Phillips, in my Halo Edition xbox, went bad in 6 months, with less than 2 months total play time. I put a Samsung in that, and that system is boxed up in mint condition, with a Sammy drive.

I then bought a modded box off Ebay for 35.00, it had a phillips, and that drive works when it wants to. I still have that drive lying around. I traded my brother some stuff for that Xbox he wanted, the Phillips failed in a month, so I gave him my Thompson, and fixed a broken Samsung drive from another box I got off ebay, and are using that now.

i just love playing with stuff and then at the end finding out it ACTUALLY works lol, like the pstwo for example, i had no faith that it would work lol, and the i held those two lid sensors down and would u believe it the disk spun lol, i felt soooooooo goood lol
