The cd drive i have now wont play any disks. if i were to buy a new one w/ the same model + ver. instead of retrieving the KEY could i just swap the old chip-set into the new drive?
it stopped working after a while when it was in the standing up position for about 3 weeks.
i dont think it could be a firmware error, i never tried any flashing of any sort with it.

If you get the exact drive, you can swap logic boards...

cool!
but is there a chance of my xbox being band from live?
I might want to hack my drive so has iExtreme stoped the banding of live?
if not what are the chances?
one last thing where can i find a good tutorial on how to install iExtreme?

No it won't be a risk because the VERSION and ROM are on the logic board, not the mechanics of the drive itself, so it's totally transparent.
