Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

Alright dudes I really need some help.
Trying to flash an ms28 drive, purchased the recommended card on tutorial, followed the tutorial exactly but just like another poster I recieve this:
A:\>xread
directory already exists
directory already exists
mtkflash by jseph lin.mtx 1998 ver 1.83c
Please wait...
No drive detected
1file(s) copied

Then it says in red
ERROR:BACKUPS\1234567\12345 orig.bin does not exist!

Runtime error at 0000:107A.
A:\>

I've tried with everything plugged in and also with nothing plugged in ie. HDD's and CDROMS but all leads to a "no drive detected" I've also tried disabling all onboard SATA (1,2,3,4) and tried different PCI slots. Any help would be much appreciated.

Guess I should mention that I've flashed other xbox 360's but they were all ms25's so I'm not a total newb.

Bit of an update, please refrain from readin the "I'm not a newb".  Now I'm receiving the three red lights of death and yes my av cables are connected. I ruined it.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

That sucks hmm

You used a floppy disc?  Was everything in the environment the same as when you did the ms25s?  Like, were you on the same machine with the sama SATA card and the same floppy disc?

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

Yeah, I used a floppy disk.  The only difference is that I bought the SATA card with the VIA chipset on it since my motherboard didn't have that.  I don't know which sucks more, the fact that I ruined a premium 360 or that it belongs to my boss.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

I say 'it belong to your boss' is worst sad

Did you extract the files before you use it to flash?
That's what give me the 'run-time error'.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

Need some help ASAP m8s smile
My samsung is already flashed with Extreme 4.2 and it wasnīt me who flashed, it was the store owner, so I donīt have the backup files.
All I need to know is this:
1- Will I be able to successfully get a backup file of my driver when I flash this time from Xtreme 4.2 to the newest Xtreme version?
2- The tutorial steps are the same for already flashed drivers, wich is my case?
3- How do I get my 360īs serial number to input in the DOS screen?
4- What is the difference between the A/B/C/D... versions?
5- when I have to choose my driver version MS28 or MS25, it doesnīt matter what firmware is flashed, only what is written on the driver case, right?
6- A 32MB USB memory does fine doesnīt it?
7- Following this tutorial I will get a backup of my driver key (or whatever) right?
8- And when I need to flash my driver with the original firmware, how can I do that? Is it easy?
Well there are a lot of questions, but please answer them all wink and It would be good to have them in the FAQ.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

I am having an issue with the computer not seeing my VAI 6421A card. I have the most up to date driver installed. When I use MTKFlash I can input my s/n after the xread but I don't see my card as one of the options. I've disconnected everything from the motherboard and the only thing that shows up is Xtreme Pri Master. I have tried this a few different ways... with just IDE cable plugged, with all plugged in and now with nothing plugged in.  I am using the Xtreme Boot maker 0.5.2 on a USB drive. Please help me fix this issue.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

have you already gone through the windows based process?  I mean, the bootable USB creation?

btw, "xtreme pri master" is what you WANT to see, so as far as I can tell, it's working okay smile  but it worries me that you didn't know that.  Are you following the tutorial that you found on THIS site?

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

First of all great tut, but

I really need some help.
Trying to flash an ms28 drive, purchased the recommended card Via VT6421a chipset made by pluscom, followed the tutorial exactly, but all i  recieve this:
A:\>xread
directory already exists
directory already exists
mtkflash by jseph lin.mtx 1998 ver 1.83c
Please wait...
No drive detected
1file(s) copied

Then it says in red
ERROR:BACKUPS\1234567\12345 orig.bin does not exist!

Runtime error 103 at 0000:107A.
A:\>

I've tried with everything plugged in and also with nothing plugged in ie. HDD's and CDROMS but all leads to a "no drive detected" I've also tried disabling all onboard SATA (1,2,3,4) and tried different PCI slots. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is the same problem that scubasteve was having, only that my xbox is fine.

I have looked at the mtkflash file with hex editor and see that it has edited the mtkflash on line "b3b0". It seems to edit the digits right from the start of the line. Is that correct? as i thought it had to be a few spaces acsross on line "b3d0"?

Could you please help me as I have been at this for 4 days none stop!

Thanks

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

It doesn't give me the option to choose the via in dos, but i can select it in XBM 3.6 and XBM 5.

I can't actually get to the stage of turning off my xbox because i am unable to select pri xtreme.... as it does not give me that option.

Basically it not seeing my via vt6421 in dos. Do you have any other suggestions? I'm a computer engineer/ technician so i know my way around a computer pretty well.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

SOME ISSUES I HAD AND HOW I FIXED THEM

DOS CRASH - STACK OVERFLOW
I would get this after I had finished booting DOS, then turned on the 360 (SATA was already attached). As soon as I then pressed any key, the machine would pause, then give an error mentioning a Stack Overflow. The solution was to start with both machines off, connect the SATA, turn on the 360, wait for it to finish loading, then start the PC

NO DRIVE VISIBLE UNDER XREAD
After doing the above, I would run XREAD no drives would be visible for me to flash. The PC would display something like: Port 8400, Master/Slave: a0 and then it would just sit there. I noticed that my SATA/RAID card has several slots and when I tried the first slot (it was marked), this error went away.

DRIVE VISIBLE, BUT XREAD STOPS PART WAY
When xread works, it works quite quickly - you will see the percentage go up very fast. The first time this happened, the numbers stopped at 7% though and went no further ... Hitting escape revealed the error: "status 00=should be 70". Sure enough, when I checked in the backup directory, the ORIG.BIN file was roughly 15k instead of 256k. As mentioned by others, the way to fix this is to make sure tht your PCs DVD drive is also plugged in and powered on. Once I had done this, I tried again and this time the file got to 228K ... note that it also goes higher than 100% .... mine got around to roughly 380% + 80% before it crashed this time.

SUCCESSFUL READ
OK, so this time I tried doing exactly what I did previously ... but it wouldn't work. Got the Port Mast/Slave error continously (like 6 times in a row). I had not changed anything since the last nearly-successful read, but could not get it to work at all. Soo ..... I unplugged my PC DVD-ROM ... and it magically worked! It would seem that the MTKFlash program is a little old and buggy ... so try all of the combinations above and eventually one should work for you!

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

hi i plan on using this tut in the near fututre but before i go out and buy a VIA VT6421A pci card i would like to know if there is any chance of it not being compatible with my motherboard.  The comp im going to use is at least 6 years old so if anyone can make an educated guess i would be very thankful.

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

Noobie here, I have been following this tutorial successfully so far, I now am to the point of booting up the USB drive to read and write the flashes.  I am using windows XP and I do not know how to "boot from the USB".  I have used DOS before, not a lot, but I have used it, however that was when i had windows 98 SE on my comp.  So I do not want to brick my XBOX 360 drive, so how do i go about booting the USB drive?  I tried to run it through the "run" option in my start menu but that just opened up the actual USB drive and its contents.  I am assuming I just have to restart the comp and it wil prompt me to boot from the USB, so i am going to try that.  But all help is appreciated, thanks.

you should not have any problems m8 as long as you have the drivers for the sata pci sata card installed

there should be an option for it in your bios a boot order or some thing like that      just set it to boot (usb hdd)

Re: Easy Samsung Guide For MS25 & MS28 Drives

Ok, I booted up using F2.  I was checking out the "boot" area to see if I could find "USB HDD" but it does not recognize it it seems.  I have my USB HDD plugged in while the comp is booting, I know the USB ports work because I am using my internet through it and my webcam as well.  When I boot up the computer to XP I can see the blue light flash out of my USB HDD as well, so i know that it is being acknowledged by the computer, but there is no option to "boot USB HDD" in the CMOS.  Here is what I get in my boot area of the CMOS:

Dell Dimension 4100 Setup
Boot
1st BOOT Device = ATAPI CDROM
2nd  BOOT Device = ARMD-FDD
3rd BOOT Device = IDE-HDD
4th BOOT Device = Disabled

This is the right area to be in correct?  It looks like my computer is not recognizing the USB boot drive i made with Extreme 5.3.  So what do I do now?  Should I try making another boot drive, can i boot from my CD-rom or floppy drive instead?  Thanks for the help.
