MORE BAN & OTHER IMPORTANT INFO. Grammar and spelling corrected. M$ has gone beyond the normal console ban to include the following restrictions and penalties:
Hard Drive installs are now disabled on the banned console. This means any disk-based games you have will no longer play off of the hard drive. If you attempt to play a game, it will tell you that it was installed on a different 360 and needs to be deleted/installed again. When you delete the game and attempt to install it, you are given a message telling you that it is not supported. There is no way to fix this, that functionality is simply gone from the banned 360.
Windows Media Center functionality is disabled. It is still possible to stream video/music content via the video library.
Your Gamertag may be corrupted. This does not mean your gamertag has been banned, you can recover it using any live-capable 360, however ANY ACHIEVEMENTS YOU HAVE EARNED SINCE BEING BANNED WILL BE LOST. Your gamertag will be corrupted EVERY SINGLE TIME it is used on a banned console. This means you cannot use your banned console to play backups offline just to get achievements – it wont work, the second you put your profile back on a good 360, it will be corrupted and all progress lost. There is no way around this.
The same applies to game saves – if you access a game save on a banned 360, it too will be corrupted when accessed on a legit/unbanned 360! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! There is no way around this, either.
Your XBLA games and DLC will still be valid, however to play them on a different 360 you will need to be signed into Xbox Live. This is normal behavior on unbanned/legit 360′s as well. They may be corrupted and have to be re-downloaded if you attempt to access them on a banned 360. You can transfer all of your downloaded content to a new 360 here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/default.htm however note that you can only do it once every 12 months.
Remember, if you really want to blame someone, blame the person that decided to modify your 360 in the first place – most likely, that would be you.

who’s to say i dont buy retail games, and use a kreon drive, back up my retail copies, and store them away safe cuz my kids like to play housecleaning with disks?? they arent allowed to trace ip addresses, just like they arent allowed to brick a console. when you buy a console, you own that hardware, the fact of connecting to live is a microsoft service, if you violate that service, i think they should ban your console and lock your gamertag for good, and have it mark you as being a hacker. they do not have the right to intentionally make your console inoperable because because you violated the TOS of xbox live.

This is nuts. I have not been banned yet, but I’ll keep off Live for now just in case. I would rather play my games offline than have them corrupt my console. Live is over-rated anyway. I only really played Gears 2 online, laggy as it was, and no-one ever used their mics on it anymore-might as well have been playing against bots. Borderlands was it’s saving grace for me, but I can live without it for now.

But I made a research, they said, flashing the EEPROM works, but it’s kind a risky to do coz it might kill your xbox once and for all… :-(

a buddy of mine just bought a refurbished console from gamestop, i modded it for him, the console was horriable, 1 the cpu heatsink was turned sideways, 2 the fan shroud was missing entirely, 3 there were no screws in the console, 4 it was already modded. so yes, i do believe “legitimate” vendors will sell a banned xbox if they sold one in the condition that i stated.

I agree, if you violate there terms of use, i would deinfately say banning from live and live alone is plenty. I strongly belive we have the right to backup our investment, i.e. copying games. leaking them of course isnt good and that is want led us here. I did not agree to them to modifying my console with out my permission if i violated there terms of use. This will turn into a civil suit. M$ was dumb enough to not offer serial branding with encryption to authenticate each copy. This is just the general practice on a copy of windows.
I can understand their concern re the modified Consoles,what l don’t understand is those that have been banned playing Ligit games. Detecting modified consoles,shows ‘intent’ to use burnt games but if that same person hasn’t played those games online and only uses ligit copies they have no right to make the Consoles inoperable.

yep, but the update usually is built into the game. as new games are released wityh new protections i think its just a matter of time these games we download will ban our consoles even without being connected to live. i do say eventually.

No, not like with PS3, they are NOT required to play games. There are people out there with no connections to live, and they can continue to play without updating from live. Newer games come with updates, but if they are updating this way, it is totally transparent because you don’t see the same steps as if updating on-line. The console does NOT reboot if they are updating with new games. I checked my Kernel, and it has been the same, and has not updated with new games.
Were all fucked, so basically let me get this str8. If for example i get a 250gb dodgy hardrive off ebay etc and play original (legit games) online. They can mess up my hardrive and ensure I never play online again??

where are you guys getting this shit? the article said that “Hard Drive Installs” will be disabled,meaning you cant back up a disc to a hard drive anymore and play it off of that. DLC will still be accessible. Basically the online ban is the same as before,except disabling the hard drive backup feature,which I believe they did that to keep people from using non-official MS drives. Personally,I dont give a shit what MS wants to do, I haven’t been banned by any of the 160+ backups that I have and definitely don’t plan on playing any un-released or un-patched games and recommend everyone else do the same to keep from getting banned.

I’m not one of these people who just DL’s all his games and never gives anything back like some, i do DL most games first, but then i either stop playing them because there crap, or go out and buy them. i also spend a stupid amount on on XBLA titles and Avatar Clothing + Props, and buy a lot of DLC. I haven’t got on XBL ever since these bans started and i don’t plan to till they are over I got 2 friend who got banned playing legit games there must be away that M$ can detect things! and if i do get banned i have someone who wants my console and will give me 200 for it with all the games so ill just buy the 250 one and use that to play CODMW2 online! the way they seem to be detecting people is if your profile has achievements in it before any of the official release date. Forza and COD MW 2 being the prime reasons, but i think its all recent games. My best mate works at Block Busters, and they get to take the games home before the release date as long as there back before release and not allowed to rent them again till a week after release. he doesn’t need to mod his 360 as he gets 7 free rentals a week, so he’s on a completely official 360, and he got banned last Friday. i agree huhh. these noobs figure out just enough to copy a game and say oh no ive been banned blah blah. i havent turned my xbox on in a month or so mainly because i have 1.4 on there. but i dont intend on plugging it in until i see verification of the new firmware. i went ahead and bought the mw2 xbox package, one for the game two for the newer xbox and 3 three the warranty. i have one of the oringial xboxs from feb 06 and its probly on its last legs anyways. Ive been in this game of backups a long time. from ps1 to psp’s to xbox1. xbox survived this long and so did sony. my point is this can only damage there market share, as it seems good right now. there looking a whiteboard saying ok we have 1.5 mill games of cod waw sold but 1.9 mill are playing obviously theres an issue there. but theres people who dont play online at all so it kind of balances in a way. with this ban if i were a consumer with a banned console i would move on to something like the ps3. on paper ps3 has beatin 360 to death and now m$ is desperate so much in fact they dont realize how this wave will effect the long term of m$ console.

Nope, the hardware still functions, they are taking software functions, all legal under the EULAs. You can still use the HARDWARE (HDD), you just can’t install SOFTWARE (GAME) to it. IT is fully functional as an off line game console, which is what you bought it for in the FIRST place.
According to the DMCA you don’t own it. You purchase a license to use it and that is all. They still own all rights to the machine.
What i would like to no is how this new ban is working i got a few friends who have gone online early with games all the time and never been banned. I always wait for the date and check every game with abgx360 to make sure it passes eveything and yet i got banned. I also have a friend who nos someone who has had COD ~WORLD AT WAR 2 delivered saturday morning and he got banned best part is his console aint flashed and the one that is flashed aint banned. When he rang them and told them his console has not mods done to it they more or less just laughed at him. Its wrong they are banning some legit consoles again they need to sort them selfs out or more will get ps3 as games are same price but online is free.

instead of liteon drive which cannot be flashed, there is a method replacint it by samsung drive which can be flashed.
Befere that, you must extract liteon hardware key, and then “spoof” this hardware key to samsung drive…

try this if you have a legit console install hd with game saves from a modded non banned console if it gets banned your game saves are gone but we know its how the game saves are writing data possibly from a modded unit. i would only do this if that console is still warrantied. so you can send it to ms and they can fix whatever it is. if microsoft is smart they do an update that sleeps like a virus and sits waiting for the switch to be flicked, down to the wire for mw2 to be launched what better time. i think this ban wave will probly stick around for lfd2 as well

If you mod your xbox, you won’t be able to play/go online with it. Any game achievements and game saves you have on the banned console can’t be transferred to another console.
It’s still worth modding if like me, you don’t intend to go on Live anymore, and you can’t afford the games anyway. Microsoft don’t lose any money from modding, if the people wouldn’t have bought the originals anyway.

I don’t mine being banded at this point, however I lost ability to stream my movies/tvshows via tversity :(, my friend has same setup and band and it works for because he some how had the codecs installed on his hdd, really hope someone out there has offline procedure to install the codecs on 360 :(. Some Friends of mine are being banned. but i’ve been informed that they can still use the Media Center function and play games from hard drive so i guess that banned people do not have to worry about losing some basic functions

I bought an xbox 360 with the intent of flashing it and playing games. I will admit that. I am kinda impoverish, so I can barely afford 1 gam every couple months. After hearing this, I am taking my xbox back to the store (Just got it saturday). I am not going to waste my HARD earned money just to have M$ give me the middle finger one day and make it unusable. I would have to be an idiot to do something like that.
SCREW MICROSOFT, THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT A STUPID 360 IT WAS BECAUSE IT COULD BE HACKED AND YOU CAN PLAY PIRATED GAMES ONLINE. IF THEY KEEP DOING THIS TYPE OF SHIT THEY GONNA GET STOMPED BY SONY WHO MAKES A BETTER CONSOLE ANYWAYS. MICROSOFT IS SUCH A GREEDY COMPANY. ISNT IT ENOUGH THEY CHARGE PEOPLE TO PLAY ONLINE. IF I HAVE TO PAY FOR REAL GAMES I RATHER GET A PS 3 WHICH IS THE BETTER CONSOLE ANYWAYS.
It sucks to be banned yeah, just got banned myself. But you can’t really complain about it, This is the risk you take when you deside to modify you console.
M$ simply want’s people to pay for their games, i would have done the same thing in their position.
and let me make one thing clear, if Sony had a similar problem they would have done the same as microsoft. It’s simply bad business otherwise ^^
Microsoft just sell consoles because you will spend more on games and on-line content. Do you really think that a Xbox 360, that advanced piece of hardware, would cost only $199? I think they even sell it below the manufacturing cost because they will earn with games (they get a share of each game sold, of course). If you only is playing pirated games, Microsoft will be glad if you buy a PS3.
So true dustbuster, I went from PS3 to xbox 360 last week. I bought the PS3 then Without hacking capabilities, PS3 is going to rofl stomp xbox with the tech savvy people. The only thing xbox has going for it is its veritable cult follow of halo fanboys and the like.

just baned 11 10 09 I never play mw 2 or any other game befor release date jjust connected to play ghostbusters whit my game tag bad move but well I’ll be playing earlier games from now on and probably I’ll get a new one to play on line been realist I save a lot of money from buying some games that are very bad so I can pay 200 for a new one wall mart will have a sale 199 arcade and 100 gift card so 100 only I flash mine ix 1.6 lite-on

Im staying offline for a month now my sons xbox is banned. I have 3 xboxs 1 banned 2 not i have over 250 games and have never played any on my 3 xboxs before release date or online but my sons got banned so dont understand how they have banned his box allways been careful not to play anything before release date and none of the mates (14) who i give games to have been banned yet.
its not the game that bans you its the firmware as soon as you play online it gets flagged to microsoft so they know your xbox is modded then its only a certain amount of time until they do anything about it
because they can detect the firmware. That’s why they are developing a new one
i just got banned about 40 mins ago when i got on this morning…o well like many of the others ps3 here i come!
Quick Question, can people banned from live still buy DLCs, or is that out the window too?
rememeber too, that the newer the newer the protection for the console its played its not live that will ban your console its the game doing updates to be able to played on your console plugged in or not. live is easier for it to occur but the game disc playing on your console will soon ban as well. just a matter of time.

The funniest thing happen to me I got CODMW2 yesterday a legit copy paid 60 for it I got home to play it and then I noticed that my xbox didn’t log into my profile when it always does and them I try to get on and I’m banned I was like fuck I knew this was going to happen I’m just goig to get a 200 xbox switch my hard drive format it and it will work on a unbanned xbox just fine and start a new live account since my membership is up on the 27th of this month!
so wat if you got a xbox and started flashing back and forth i extreme for offline and back to normal firmware when you go online they couldent scan for the hacked firmware and it only takes 2 mins to flash does any 1 think that would work
hey guys, i got a quick question. i have two xboxes one flashed and one legit. i share the hdd between the two but i have never had the flashed one go on live. ive been doing it this way for 2 years now with no problems. do you guys think im gonna get hit by the ban wave?
Look guys getting a ps3 won’t hurt m$ they know you’ll be back. Why because of live being better than ps3′s online. Now instead if fighting a firmware war. A solid xbl alternative should be made. ( I know I used xbconnect for the old xbox). That would take the power they hold over the public . No more bans. The economy is bad, people are trying to save money evey way they can. Them taking extreme measure to protect Cod and other games coming out was expected but this extra step they have takenis wrong, but they knew they had to do something. Something we could not stop. You can’t tell the police hey they stole my drugs, do something.

ok i have 2 360s one with a 120gb and one with a 20gb. i got banned on the 120gb thanx Assassins creed 2 so i just revovered my gamertag through live on my other one and put it on a memory unit and put my 120gb HD on my unbanned console and BAM!!!!! All my game saves work flawlessly except for AC 2. hope this helps anyone
Here is a thought to all the clever ones out there on how the firmware is now detectable. Has M$ incorporated a version of jungleflasher or mtkflash into the last update before the Facebook update which when the console rebooted just like when you reset the drive quickly with a lite on drive which then will tell you what firmware you are on then it stores it on internal memory untill you log onto live and then BAM you are dead.
dave1971 has a very good point is there any way to slealth patch around it i mean has someone decrypted the MS Dash update yet? theres gotta be a hint in there somewhere
