Microsoft Confirms LIVE Console Ban Wave to IGN: “We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs,” a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. “In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox LIVE.”
Microsoft also added this is a standing policy and isn’t tied to any specific time-frame.

New Console Ban Wave on Xbox LIVE? We are getting some new information on console bans in the forums, and home page. Use the the thread HERE to post your ban info only. As always, it doesn’t seem to be linked to any particular FW version or drive model. Users with all type of CFWs, and drives, have report bans, while others with the same configuration still seem fine.

Users that get baned play games before release date, that’s how they get banned.
i just bought a 360 elite from best buy 2 weeks ago. i just tried to sign in to live for the 1st time, and it says im banned ! i have never played a back up of any game and my console is not modded. the worst part is, my wife lost the reciept :( what can i do about this someone help me ??
I got banned with a benq 1.6 probably playing tekken 6. Play AFTER release and VERIFIED by ABGX. Pretty sure its the one shot disk
I got banned with one unmodified XBOX360. I update the system this wednesday, I am good till friday noon, after that, My console said I got banned. What I did is play a ligal copy of Forza 3 limited edition, and down a NEW DLC for GTA4. I call microsoft, they only said they do not have the record for why banning the console, so I am wondering they may fraud people by banning the console to push people buy new consoles.
You can’t play illegal copies on an UNMODDED XB360, so don’t know how your unmodded console was banned for that. You would have had to have a RETAIL copy before release date?
They don’t BAN people just for them to go buy new consoles, stop that nonsense. Don’t mess with your console, and you won’t have to buy a new one.
its not nonsense i have already heard of at least 30 other people who have gotten banned even though their console was not modded and three who didn’t even have a gold membership just silver and just so you know microsoft pulled this shit the same time last year just before xmas…
i was playing cod4 and cod waw and i got ban
i only plaid cod waw and got banned,
how do they know who has a mod console?
its there a way to un banned it?

Me and 2 friends have been banned today, the on thing we had in common is, were all tried a wave 4 game in a BenQ with 1.51, or Samsung with 1.51 and got the XBOX 360 dvd screen, that was a week or 2 ago, so becareful everyone
It is the one shot boot disc updated firmware soon as used disc i was banned.
Has anyone out there been banned with a Hitachi drive and never changed from 1.51. mine seems to still be working fine
I just played Fifa 10 the other day and it is a burnt copy……no ban. I think its only the microsoft released games that they insert some type of tracking thing that finds out which game is being run modded. I was banned last year when i played a bootleg copy Gears of War 2…..ever since then i do not play bootleg copys for microsoft releases…. and i have not been banned in this wave so far…..so i guess it only affects the microsoft releases, because its a microsoft created game, so they Must have put somthing inside the game coding to flag it as modded….but since they do not Own EA Games, Neversoft, etc, they cannot insert their tracking method into those games…..the only way i think you can get banned from Non- Microsoft created games, is if your dumb and don’t stealth it properly
I totally agree with you! I was banned friday on gow2.. microsoft games!!!!! My mistake, last year a played gow2 2weeks before it came out on stores… and i got baneed only now.. well i knew it could happen one day.. ^^
My friend was banned and he never played a burned game before they were released I know for a fact. He did just recently get the 1.6 flash on his BenQ…..
No one knows how they detect who has modded consoles. Period!!!
If we knew, people wound’nt get banned. Another ban wave hit Australia today 7th November 2009.
They check to see if you turned on your xbox without your drive attached . thats how you mod it
@blagger1 how could this information be stored if there is no hdd or ethernet plugged in? seems a little far fetched if you ask me.
If that were the case, blagger1, then wouldn’t all those who own an Arcade be banned by default since their console has no HDD?
damn you guys are dumb. The information is stored on the NAND not harddrive or sent through ethernet. and he’s talking about the power but not the sata cable connected to the ODD not the HDD
theres a chip in your 360 stores the info if the game is un stealthed in it wether you play a game offline, soons as you go online it sends the info to microsoft, as for one shot ive had no probs as of yet ?? like somebody said we dont know for sure what it is… but we all knew the risks before doing it so dont cry when your banned
as far as I can tell they’re detecting the flashed firmware, all of my friends have different drives and play different games and we all got banned
i have a modded 360 although all the new files have not been added, i was wondering if i go buy the retail version of the game and play it in my box will all be good?online play and all?Will this update my system to the newest firmware thanks
Hey guys, here is what I have confirmed. I have the latest iExtreme on a hitachi 47. Played a back-up of COD-MOD2 through the campaign then used the retail version the day it came out to play online. This did not cause any problems!
So is it the firmware or not? I have played online now for 2 days with the flashed firmware and AFTER playing a good part of the game with a back up. I’m not planning on taking the back-up online until the WAVE 4 stealth is confirmed.
ABGX is up with MOD2 for those who don’t konw!
so since XBOX 360 cost 150 just get two one for cygnos and the other for the live . and a memory card to upload ur live stats .

Today I was banned for one day for information in my bio/motto/name/location so on. All of that information is no motto no bio no name . I never even editted it yet. But , today I get banned. Appearently , people filed complaints on my bio for offensive content. I mean , I guess No Bio is pretty offensive.
