When you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept the mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back on-line in a few moments.
There are no new features or changes in this update. This update is preparation for additional system enhancements (Facebook/Twitter/Last.FM) that will arrive later this year.
Just like the previous update this will update the first stage bootloader if needed, and thus make the JTAG/SMC-Hack impossible. You have to stay Pre Kernel-849x, if you want to run the hack. For DVD FW modders? Update at own risk, as always.
Anyone on DVD CFW 1.6 and tried this update yet?

Can’t wait, for god’s sake cant they JUST make an internet browser than make 3 seperate profile content? I mean jesus. a web browser with these 3 bookmarked makes it all the better. Then again, If they were to combine Youtube, Twitter and Facebook all at once, would they rather call it Youtwitface.com?
I haven’t updated, I haven’t been banned, in fact, I haven’t turned my 360 on for about 3 months. Guess I’m bored with it.

Actually there were some statements made where the update was for twitter and facebook *so far*. The data itself contains it but the option is not yet unlocked, A new patch *Smaller* would be later released which would enable 2 new entire slides for social networking. Imo from what ive read about, the patch would enable us connection to their XBL server, hence showing us the goods. Then again why go through all the trouble when they can make a browser -.-. What’s really bothering me is the fact that M$ is slowly trying to find reasons to make the ‘invasion of privacy’ law non legit anymore, By accessing your facebook/twitter on the xbox you just gave them the key to your privacy being invaded. XBL has the habbit of monitoring everything you do. I wonder to see how this would have a positive effect. I’d also like to know as to why Facebook made no such statement as of yet that they are going to make changes to make it ‘XBL supportive’ as they showed in the convention that users may now be able to see which of their fb friends has an xbox and you can send/notifications to other XBL owners by linking your gamertag to your profile. Screenshot option was also included in the update, allowing you to update your screens directly onto FB/Twit
Yet another reason why 360 consoles should go in the bin! I would really like a games console, not some bollocks wanking machine that does everything else but! It’s a fucking console for christ sake, it plays games! Well at least that’s what it’s `advertised` as!!!
Yeah, I don’t like or need all the bells and whistles that they are forcing you to take. It’s a game console, it should STAY a game console. They also, SILL write graphics beyond the machines capability. Frame rate slow downs, hesitations, and jerky video on scenes with lots of action and debris flying around. No one has EVER been able to keep smooth game play, throughout the ENTIRE game, no matter what’s on the screen. OR? Don’t make the game so that so much shit can fly around, and slow the thing down…
EXACTLY! GOD, THANK GOD! THANK YOU for finally mentioning that. As much as i’d like to throw it in their faces, Its so god damned hard to accept the fact that, Even when using your MSN to sign in, anything higher than 50+ contacts lags up the whole xbox to 1 min per click. Games like Ninja Gaiden II and Rainbow Six : Vegas 2 are really damned laggy, I really dont understand how XBL broadcasts gameplays of the same game but show it as if it was so damned smooth. The dashboard itself takes processing speed and shit load of time to process. Now facebook and all are coming, I would love to see how this works out.
no offence 2 the ppl actually waiting 4 fb and twitter update but if i wana use those things i jsut go 2 my computer and go on them….no need 4 M$ lookin on my fb account or nothin and plus i dont have 2 just b doin that i can do that and play my 360…. and yes i agree y cant M$ just make a web browser…if they charged like 800 points 2 download it ($10) then i would pay 4 the 1 time fee but if its free then that b better
You will never have any Internet Browser for XBOX 360, if you want to navigate the web purchase a Microsoft Windows Copy that is the true bussiness of Microsoft.
They will never introduce an internet system with gaming, audio and video chat, messaging and web browser to compete with its operating system.
You have made your point, But take a look at apple. Apple has made a Mac which has lasted for about 4-5 years on the market *Laptops* and they can do just about anything windows can do. The ability to use a built in cam, messenger, safari web browser majority of what i can think of, Is all whats built into the iPod/iPhone and the coming products too. As far as im concerned, There is a slight chance that there *could* be a web browser because as much as Xbox will be more of a computer than a console in the coming updates, There are just some things that Xbox cant do, This explains why M$ Has been patching Xbox’s from being able to install homebrews. That way it would force people to look at the xbox and a computer from a different angle and perspective. As far as im concerned, If the xbox could move with a mouse and type with a keyboard and had a browser, believe me, That be just about enough for me. Ofc im not saying your wrong, But rather there is room for such a thing to come out. Im guessing the only reason why they haven’t come up with a browser is because they themselves cant perfect iE8, there are lots of bugs and glitches,Bugs where people would complain from a range of ‘desired’ web browsers *Some who prefer mozilla/chrome/safari over ie* and with that 64% of the world are mozilla users. Comments flaring from ‘Oh this wouldn’t have happened on mozilla / iE8 is shit, change to mozilla’ that kinda thing. Basically, M$ would have their hands full, and i dont think they’re willing to have it. After all, Avatar marketplace was an epic fail, If only they did something like making a room and allowing avatars to interact with one another hence making it more enjoyable.
I am not bothered by the fact that there is an update. What really does bother me is the fact that any and every update is forced down your throat by Microsoft. What if I do not want twitter or facebook and junk like that clogging up my hard drive. They don`t give you any choice whatsoever in the matter. It`s rather disgusting if you ask me.

Ok , with NXE it was acceptable : Massive changes were due , but for something the alot of users of XBL wont use , this is a bit of a piss taker.
I only have a 20Gig HDD and it’s hard enough installing 2/3 games . But now i have to have this shit on my drive that is’nt gonna be touched.
They lied to everyone again, saying this would NOT be a mandatory update, to NXE. IT was fine the way it was. But if you want to play on-line, you HAVE to, if not, you an keep the original dash. New units are shipping with NXE anyway, so it’s being forced on everyone. Who cares about a Wii cloned thing?
In a way, I’m hopeful that I do get banned from XBL! That way I won’t need to worry about bollocks updates and be able to use it for what is `designed` for!!

Anyone can do that! All anyone has to do is, NEVER plug it into your router, simple as that. If you never put it on the INTERNET, then nothing will EVER change? Ha, that’s what you may think; newly released GAMES also came with system updates… You don’t need to be banned to never get updates, here’s a tip: Unplug it from the Internet; ta-daaaa, no more nag screens.

That’s right, the bulk of the SYSTEM updates are applied to the boot-rom (NAND). Your additional stuff, like Avatars and what not, are stored on the HDD. It’s very small compared to what’s written to the NAND.

No, Your not. But rather retrace your steps, so you might know. You can only be ‘banned’ if you actually *had* gone online during the ban wave, If you were banned, You would know -.- Trust me, they make it an effort to show you in a Full HD that your banned.

If you can connect to live, and even initiate a download, NO, you are not banned. Don’t know why they won’t install…
