Microsoft: Still No Blu-ray Addon Plans

Posted by The Ori

What happened to Toshiba? The Japanese corporation announced its exit of the HD DVD business and now, a year and half later, it is completely admitting the success of Blu-ray Disc. This by announcing plans to manufacture, and sell Blu-ray Disc players by the end of the year; and, will consider the production of Blu-ray Disc recorders.

Peter Moore left the door open once. Microsoft has denied a Blu-ray Disc drive several times. Following Toshiba’s announcement, when asked, A Microsoft spokesperson provided the following statement:

“As we have stated before, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360. We have a long-standing high definition strategy that runs across gaming and premium content, and it’s a strategy that continues to pay off for us. Today, we offer the largest library of blockbuster games and offer a growing library of nearly 20,000 movies and TV episodes on Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace (more than 5,000 in HD). In addition, people have access to 12,000 films and TV episodes on Netflix Instant watch. And coming this fall, Xbox LIVE will launch digital movies with instant on 1080p HD streaming so you can experience the best video quality with no disc, no download and no delay. ”

Yeah, so lets continue to get games that require more than one disc, AND, continue using a drive that was hacked within 6 months. Then, lets make newer ones are hacked as fast as they come out.

Switching to BR-D would be a public relations nightmare for M$ anyway, so they should stay away from it.

New Jasper come with a smaller power supply!

Posted by The Ori

GX-Mod.com is reporting that the newer Xbox 360 Jasper models come with a new, smaller PSU.

The image below shows a regular Power Supply, then right below it, from a new Arcade Jasper-based Xbox360 with the 512MB internal MU.  The supply is about an inch and a half smaller and, it looks just a tad thinner.  The 360 units with this smaller supply are  said to be manufactured in May of 2009.  This smaller Power Supply is still 150Watts, so no change there.

New Jaspers Come with Smaller PSU
Will these new PSUs work on other Jasper models?  Don’t know, haven’t seen what the header looks like.   Lets us know if they work!

More Info On 1GB Xbox 360 Dev Kits

Posted by The Ori

From an earlier post, about the 1GB Dev Kits:  The extra 512Mb Ram is not on the motherboard, it is on what is called a “side car” or expansion module.  The dev kit itself is an XNA prototype with jasper-based motherboard.  Xbox Scene has pictures of the side-car, it LOOKS like, but they are pretty crappy pictures. On top of that, they put their stupid water-mark right on it, so you can’t make anything out anyway.

LiteOn 83850c Solution

Posted by The Ori

Though people are saying there is no problem: The LiteOn revision 83850c that has been mainly coming out of repair centers in Europe has been fully dumped. More details will come as the firmware is fully decrypted, but at the very worst we have a work-around if all known back-doors are disabled. A solution for this model will NOT be released to public until this version becomes mainstream, that being shipped commercially with new xbox360′s.

XBMC running on Xbox360!

Posted by The Ori

Xbox Scene is running a little behind?

Team Cygnos have posted a video of XBox Media Center (XBMC) running on Xbox 360 with Ubuntu launched via the Xell loader by tmbinc. For those who missed it, Team Cygnos recently announced their Cygnos360 v2.0 modchip with dual firmware and USB support.  Quote: ‘We managed to patch XBMC for Linux so that it runs on the Xbox360. It is still a proof-of-concept and does not have sound or 3D acceleration, but it runs!

XBMC is not required under the XB360 (or PS3) Dashboard as it is, with a Media Server running on a PC.  The XB1 neds XBMC because it doesn’t have the same features built in to its Dashboard.
