Finally, some news: Microsoft Extends Warranty For ‘E74′ Failures

Posted by The Ori

More troubles plague the Xbox360, and Microsoft!  They make due though, as they usually do.

M$ Says: While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays “E74″ on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue.

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an out of warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the e74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. However, if a customer has not received a refund by July 1, 2009, the customer should visit www.xbox.com/support before November 1, 2009 for information on how to place a claim. All refund claims must be received on or before November 1, 2009.

What this means: The E74 error is now covered along side the 3LOD warranty; and is retroactive. That means, anyone who paid for their E74 repair while in their 3-Year 3LOD period, will be refunded.

Very small percentage my ass !! If i were to collect all the xbox’s that had this issue, i would have had a mansion made by their parts. In a way im actually surprised m$ is doing a refund, usually they dont give crap about this sorts of things. They usually say ‘Oh its just $300′ but i guess now they see that PS3 competition is rising with the new titles, im sure they want to keep ahead of it.

Wow, this is pretty cool. I’m one of the lucky ones that hasn’t had any issues, even when I live with a bunch of dumbass roomates that leave my 360 on all the time and make it super-heat.

Of course, I’ve been playing on my PS3 a lot, as of late…

K as long as you have ANY electronic device, it ALWAYS have a chance to fail, no matter how it was designed or what it is.

..wtf? “After investigating the issue”? Why the hell would they need to investigate it? They make the console, they should know the error codes. >____>

…A small percentage? Surly it’s not as high as the RROD, but it’s still pretty damn high.. I’ve had to send mine back for the same problem 3 or 4 times already =/ So much for the small percentage…
