We’ve gotten a few messages and seen some forum threads pop up on console bannings so I thought I’d post and let folks know what’s up. In our our continued effort to keep gameplay safe and secure for our community of more than 14 million members, Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games. You should know that modifying your Xbox 360 console is also a violation of the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void your warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive, both from manufacturers and the local companies that support them. We will continue to employ and bolster anti-piracy security measures to counter piracy in the gaming industry and improve security in the Xbox LIVE community.

A person in the forums said, that a person who has a DEV KIT who develops for M$; they said they ARE detecting modified firmwares. He also said if you are not banned now, you will be by 3PM EST Today (15th).

I understand thats what he said but im still good for live and today is the 16th so they can detect something but im wondering what i think it got to be with the disc that are burned like i said i rip all my own games and play backups and have had to fix my box for rrod so we shall see what happens
No Mate you are not safe i have the same thing 1 day before the new update they banned me.
I have a Hitachi am ok 2. Also ixtreme 1.4 and my own backups ripped myself.
Does anyone know if they’re banning using disc loading times or if they can access the DVD firmware directly through the new update?
I’m guessing its all the people that play games prior to launch. Especially those that play them while connected to live.

A friend of me has been banned with sammy drive on Ixtreme 1.4.
It has nothing to do with the new DASHBOARD update. All banned ones are still on the old one.

THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO.
M$ will ALWAYS know that you are playing with a modded xbox. They say 1.4 is safe with STEALTH games, but no. It is BS. No matter what version of firmware you use, or what games you play, etc, M$ will always have a way to know if you are legit or not.
They ban randomly, and if you are not banned yet you may be banned later. If not later, you will be banned in the coming months. Once you go on LIVE once with a modded xbox you are already flagged and there is NOTHING you can do to unflag yourself, even if you revert to genuine gaming.
It is all a matter of time before M$ decides to pick you for their ban wave. Most likely they choose the people who have been an ACTIVE live customer for some time, this way they will know you are most likely going to buy another XBOX, so they will make money off you.
The people who were not banned are most likely new LIVE customers and who have not paid much to the subscription.

There were reports, last year, of people with FAN mods getting banned. That was the fan on FULL speed all the time. The XBOX monitors the temp and fan rpms, so if it is HIGH on power up? they know it was opened and tampered with. Under the EULA that you agreed to when signing on to Live, any tampering is grounds for a ban. Petty, maybe, but that’s the rules they made, and people agreed to.
Same thing happened last ban scare everyone played dirty copies they downloaded. I think a few people need to read up. c4eva has put out new logs that indicate that MS isn’t using any new means to detect mods…one would think if there was a new way they would have just put the ban on everyone with a modded drive, this is not the case here. What has happened here is called complacency. I would be willing to bet that not everyone checks their iso’s after they download them. just about every release for GOW2 isn’t retail needed patching. Just because a game passes firmware 1.4 check and loads the game doesn’t me that its safe to play. You need to check ALL of your ISO’s and ensure that they are patched. Anyone that has been banned cant honestly say that they checked every ISO that they grabbed off newsgroups I don’t care what you tell MS to try and get your Xbox unbanned. All i know not a single Xbox I have modded has been banned during the first or this one. And I do all the ISO’s
I check my ISO as best as I know how to. All I need to do is load them into XDVDMulleter and see if the iXtreme compatible box is checked correct? Even if the game does not appear in the Mulleter database and the iXtreme box is checked, the game is OK to play online correct?

have to agree with neo2121 i do all my games and have not had any xbox band yet thats what i think also if M$ knew they would ban those who violate the contract
i also agree with neo2121. i played today and barely came upon the news. if they were doing it by firmware i would have been banned. i do all my own backups and check with three programs in order to be on the safe side that my games are stealthed correctly.i have two systems and have yet to be banned.

There is no work around when you’re playing LEAKED games, then have the audacity to even try and connect to live with it. There also is no work around when the backup is not stealthed properly. It is up to the pirate-ER to run the checks to be sure it passes the checks; and, not to play leaked games. Even if you don’t connect to live, the 360 already stored the information on it, the 360 FARMS data, and will be transmitted when you connect. Even when it is up for sale, YOU have already played it, they know by what XB360 has transmitted once you signed in.
Wouldnt you think MS could make it easy as in when you recieve achievements they record the date and if you have alot of games before they come out and have the acheivements before release date thats obvious yours is hacked. and then the idiots that get on live before the street date of a game is retarded. your asking to get banned

i think the problem is here that M$ detects games on the dvd’s because when you download them you always have to check the stealh patch and you have to be a 100% sure that the game is retail because i think that if M$ finds a file in the disc that isn’t the same or does not appear on the legit retail game they BAN
Do all you guys recon M$ dosent know about this site or any other site that reports hacks and mods.
They would also download the hacks run them and then work out ways of detecting them.
The hacks are just as easy to get for them as it is for us so If you where M$ wouldnt you be reading these posts.
got banned 12/11/2008 with 1st Gen console swapped Hitachi to Samsung 1.4. They will make more money now selling second consoles to those that are banned. I’m getting another one just for live and my brother just got another one as well. LOL

seriously people, i know it’s a burden, but PLEASE, try using some common sense once in a while. the easiest way for someone to know you’re cheating them is to see you play unreleased games for your region. COMMON SENSE.

Person goes out and buys a Xbox 360, goes home… Next day he finds a way to backup his original games and play them on the Xbox 360 and do so. Works for a half year, and gets banned, no fun without multiplayer… Goes out and buys a new box, does the same, as he thinks the new iExtreme firmwares are safe, boom gets banned a half year later again, and goes out and buys a new Xbox 360, think of it… M$ just tripled they’er income from the Xbox 360’s, so they will be able to make new buggy software, and fix those in a new version like Windows 7, that people have to buy too… GG M$ I bought my Xbox to be able to play my friends online, not to be a lone wolf, that plays with himself all night… Uhh and Piracy? Forget about stopping that, pirates will always be a step in front of you…
Microsoft doesn’t make money selling consoles. They make money selling games, so your argument is moot.

MS are banning those who have played games that are Review and Press copies, there are banning those who are playing early, and those with dirty Stelth discs,
if you are banned its your owned fault you had the option to take your time, and be careful.
THE Only way you wont be caught at present is
To have latest firmware, Backup all your own games, and make sure you have 100% patched them, and for the love of god dont play them online, if you like halo 3 or COD online then buy the damn game, what you save on pirated offline games covers online games easily!!!
do not D.L a game off torrent that states its stealth patched and expect it to be safe!!
I backup all rented game only, i do it myself and i patch correctly everyime, and i havent been banned

I was banned (Hitachi 78 ixtreme 1.4 12X) around November 16, but i was unbanned today… what the fuck?
idk guys, seems to me with the fan hacks what’s going on is M$ is sending a ping to your system, this ping runs a complex diagnostics of your system, and when it return microsoft has information about your system and it’s mods or w/e, more so, it’s probably moltiple pings wit different encriptions to be sent through different parts of your console. this would allow M$ so see any changes to the firmware or anything based on the data that is returned, my best seggestion, be a little honest, playing modded games isn’t worth the price of a new console, it’s likely that if you revert your console you may be able to save your own ass, since it’ll send another ping with a regular status and will probably revert the priority of your console to normal. other than that I’m sure the mods are at your own risk and whatever you reseave from that is well, your fault.

And Ping is simply telling the other computer how long it takes for the packet to reach…
hahaha, that’s not how ICMP (ping) traffic works. All a ping is to send ICMP hello packets and ack , that’s it. There is nothing like your talking about checking system info on a ping.

Ok I got recently banned from live which I can accept(well really my sons fault but)I was wondering is it the console that is banned or the Live account.I’m asking this because if I get a new unit can I just use my current gamer profile or do I need to get a new live account.

You can just transfer your HDD to the other console too, either way.
starblazer: it is just THAT 360. You can log in to your acc. on another 360. Or you can do what I did last wave of the hammer. I traded a friend that had no interest in playing on live. I just kept my hard drive and was good to go again :)

However as I didn’t hack it, I’m just wondering if anyone knows a quick way to find out what type of hack as been used? Also is there any method that has proving immune to this current wave of banning?

I had a UNMODDEFIED benq elite, The dad of the update my drive stopped working wouldnt read a single disk after never missing a beat. I decided to flash it to try and get the read speed slower and get it to work. After Flashing my drive it works perfectly so M$ corruped my flash!
anyone else had this~???? PS not banned but i only use legit games in my elite! white xbox 360 with benq still not banned either with my own stealths.
Never heard of M$ doing any DVD Drive firmware updates; which can corrupt them. This is a FIRST, if that is actually true.
all i know is my xbox never had disk read errors the after update drive would just grind and not even register disks in the drive. I reflashed it with iextreme 1.41 benq 5x speed. drive now works like nothing happened!! i was gonna buy a new laser at first but thought i would try that first!

Has anyone ever tried to just play retail games(not copied) on an xbox 360 that has a firmware like iextreme and see if they are banned? This would prove if microsoft could detect firmware or not. Thus proving if it is the firmware or the disc itself.
