AMD has invested heavily into hyperbole research, proudly proclaiming that its new graphics chip, the RV770, is “more powerful than every generation of video game console ever brought to market combined.” The RV770, demoed Monday, is capable of processing one trillion floating operations per second on a single chip, a feat that AMD says “punches a sizeable hole in the sensory barrier.”
If the specs and information on this chip are correct? The next gaming console will have graphics that will look like you just transitioned from a Dreamcast console to the Xbox 360… It is a very powerful chip, with close to real looking graphics. We all await the details!
now this could be very interesting for computers…

At this point, I’m not impressed with performance boosts that are “off the charts.” With power comes heat, even if you’re using a 65nm die. If they actually have an efficient way to disperse the heat off of this thing (short of a big copper brick), I’ll be happy.
rv770 actually uses a 55nm process. even so, its odd that its power consumption and heat output are only slightly better than the gtx280, granted it is a single slot cooler, but still.

The one thing about AMD/ATI is that in the past it’s been shown that they eat up more juice, draw more power and generate more heat then competitor Nvidia’s comparable offerings. You’d probably need some good airflow or some liquid cooling as these cards keep getting more and more powerful, they keep needing more and more heat dissipation.
whats this got to do with the 360??? why is it in the 360 site? i understand the 360 uses an ati graphics set-up but its not like this new graphics chip is going into an xbox now is it.

I recall sending an email some weeks ago about this, which is xbox360 related, and something some might be interested in,if it’s ever released in future updates or as a stand alone to allow users to save their own boxes. Nobody ever put this up obviously.

It was posted a LONG TIME ago, back when someone first spotted a new heatsink in the XB360. IT may not bet that one you showed, however, there was one posted, and instructions on how to identify you have a new heat-sink without opening up the XB360.

Microsoft is coming up to the 5 year mark. What a way to show a bat up Sony’s a#@ than jumping on this new chip. Xbox 1080 would rule the world. J/K, but yes. Put this chip in the new xbox and find a storage media for games that will crush Blu-Rays. I’m not a Sony hater, I’m buying one next week, but I just LOVE my Xbox 360.
hmm, I don’t think sony would be planning on putting todays technology in the PSneXt and since nvidia are always 1 step ahead of the rest of the field with gpus I don’t think there’ll be much in it. Personally, I’d like to see Nintendo come up with an equally powerful machine as they are the only company that don’t seem to waste too many millions making life hard and combating piracy/homebrew … well until the recent twilight hack fix anyway.

Wow this will be wicked… Well if this is the technology MS is researching for the next Xbox realese, im sure they pretty much have an idea what they’re planning if this little bundle of graphical pleasure is inserted as the next power house console… who knows maybe they will multiply it by two???? lol
