DivX and XviD work after fall update!

Posted by The Ori

You can now stream DivX and XviD to Xbox from a PC, or view files from a DVD or memory device with the files on it.  I have tested this today, and it works fine.

1. Sign in to a profile, and attempt to view a .AVI file in DivX or XviD.
2 . It will ask you to download content for this file format.
3. MANUALLY download it, even if the download is checked.
4. Try again, you should have success!  There should be an option to continue with viewing, something like that, chose that option; it should play.

You can view movies in these formats from the DVD drive, with just the files.  You only need to change the SOURCE, and that’s it.

For Connect360 user, simply rename the avi file to wmv or mov will force Connect360 to stream it. Awesome !

Not for me, my Xbox360 sees the AVI files on the PC just fine, dunno why you had to rename them, because you don’t

Is it possible to enable the divx with offline update?

No. I am not sure if you can take JUST the Codec update, and not the console update.

PS3 cannot play XviD or DivX! I do not know where you got that, but it doesn’t support it. You need to TRANSCODE if using a media center PC. I will try it when I get home, just to be sure, but they are complaining that PS3 does NOT support those formats.

I’m so pissed about the fall update. They took away the Zune and Windows Media Player pc connections, and now there’s only Media Center. I don’t have Vista or Media Center Edition, I have XP. So I can’t watch movies or listen to music or view pictures or anything from my pc through the 360. On top of that, my gamesaves all got erased when I updated my console. After the update, I moved my profile to my memory unit, then brought it to a buddy’s house. I popped in the MU and there was nothing on it. When I got home later, I couldn’t find my profile on the MU or the HDD, so I recovered it. After a few can’t retrieve from Xbox Live errors, it finally started. When it was done and I was finally signed back in, I tried to load up Rock Band, but my band was gone. I looked at the dashboard and all my saves associated with my profile are GONE!!! I called Microsoft and they said they will send me a wireless controller to compensate. I don’t need one and I hate them more than ever now. And then there’s the 53 Live Arcade (full game) titles I have purchased. I can only access 12 of them (full versions)when I’m offline, and they said the wireless controller is to compensate all of these problems. I really don’t need another controller, this doesn’t fix my arcade games, the pc compatibility, or my gamesaves. It doesn’t even come close to compensating for the money I’ve spent on the Arcade Games I can’t play. What can I do?

WRONG, you only need change the SOURCE! I CAN stream the DivX and XviD from my PC, JUST AS BEFORE, I do not know what your problem is besides being blind? Where are you people getting your information? CHANGE THE SOURCE, there is a NEW OPTION for this now, PAY ATTENTION, my god! I see both my Media PCs, and they are NOT Media Edition windows either, both are XP. One with Tversity, and one with WMP, and BOTH can stream JUST FINE!!! You’re just not looking hard enough. I have tons of Howard Stern videos I record with XviD, and now I can stream them from my PC without transcoding, just as before. Whatever, think what you want, it still works.

I went to the system tab on xbox360, over to computers, and all that appears is Media Center. I click on Video in dashboard and it goes straight into the console’s video files…Where or how am I supposed to change the source? Usually you click video and it gives you some sort of device option. Nothing there. Nothing in system tab. And you’re saying that the DivX/Xvid codecs are built into the update, or do I have to go and download from the Live Marketplace. I looked around a bit on the Marketplace and could not find it…

There should be a choice to
CHANGE SOURCE. I had the same thing happened to me, but I got it working by changing the source back to “MYEMACHINE” which is how it is recognized.

The DivX and XviD are not part of the update, when you go to play the content, is asks to DOWNLOAD the content for this item, so you go do that. It looks as if it already had downloaded, but MANUALLY do it again…

I cannot get this to work, I use media center and try and play a divx file but it says it canot play. No option for downloading the codec comes up. Do you have to play the divx with the dvd drive to get the codec. If not then how?

For those having problems you need to be signed into live then on the dash board go to videos thats where you find the change source select the pc then the film it will then let you download the update
