We don’t have a lot of information yet, but it looks like Microsoft started a new wave of bans against modified DVD firmwares or DVD+/-R DL discs. You can’t Bitset DVD-R discs to a DVD-ROM booktype!
Several users on the Xbox Scene forums and on IRC report their Xbox 360 has been banned from LIVE today. We get reports of both Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives banned with all types of different firmwares (with both Xtreme and iXtreme).
No reports of banned BenQ drives yet (but few of these drives have been flashed yet).
We don’t know yet if Microsoft is detecting the modified firmware or the discs (maybe only with a specific game(s)?).
If you have the ‘Z Code’ 8015-190D it means you are banned.
If your console is banned or if you have been playing on LIVE today with modified FW without getting banned, report you findings in this thread.
So until we have more info we HIGHLY suggest you don’t log in to Xbox LIVE and don’t play any games from DVD+/-R DL (even offline, just incase MS flags something) if you have a flashed DVD drive.

I have a towel tricked out rrod dec.05 hitachi 47 modded with ixtreme for Hitachi..(the second one i think) and i logged onto live successfully.
That status will probably change..but I only turned it on to check that out..the box won’t function for more than ten minutes anyway.

I have a Samsung and I was playing last night Gears of Wars and NBA 2k8. Nothing happend, but im not going to try it tonight. I thought the Last !xtreme firmware is safe. I mean they just release it like 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Not being able to sp33k l337, I understand absolutely nothing of what Joe Bloggs wrote. I can however offer an update. Apparently the bans are being generated by badly stealthed games. xdvdmulleter is a good tool for checking, and be sure to use good media.

As the other guy said, BLANK DVD media has different descriptors and information on them. If DVD InfoPRO can display what the type of disc is, who makes it, AND what the book-type is, so can Microsoft. If you look, when you change book-type, you still see it’s (was) a DVD+R media, but the changed book-type is DVD-ROM. You can never change the Manufacture ID either, that is displayed as well. Burnable media is not the same as stamped media, and anyone can get the information from the disc to verify it’s authenticity.
Also, the theory is wrong that is it just NON stealth media, because people were banned playing originals as well.
Remember, YOU broke an agreement, and the law, so whining and crying just shows how immature you really are. Suck it up, buy a new console, and WAIT for he titles to his 19.99 and buy them. People have been banned TWICE now, and at 300.00 a pop? Well, was it worth it? Probably not unless you are a true masterthief (hee hee hee) and gut swapped, and/or stole another console.
I agree, if you guys say that you use it to backup your own game. Play the original until it gets scratched or broken disc then you use the dam backup. If you do have a banned xbox 360 and have another unbann. Use the banned one for playing offline and swap the hard drives.

You can hate to disagree all you want, go to the XBox Scene forum that is in the news article and look for yourself. A few people said they never played backups yet, and were banned. So, either THEY are lying, or you’re just another NO RESEARCHING newbie.

i am not an expert but i will give some information for those who know best.and maybe it will help.i dont know if it will help in any way.i have left my via card connected to the pc.and microsoft has sent the following updates:kb941649 and updates for my via card that for some reason i cannot view it anymore.anyway that one was an optional update but it was not 6421la.that is my via card.

just because you think you can afford millions of 40 0dd pound games dosnt mean you can, we get games before they come out and cheap as anything, so why pay so much when there is a way round it…?

just suck it up and disconnect the ethernet cable or wifi dongle from your xbox until this problem is hacked too. That’s all i’m gonna do. If anyone knows the PSP homebrew scene, then you know any fix the company does won’t last long - but neither will any hack. you just have to be patient if you want to play “backups” - that’s the price you pay instead.

It is not FW that they are detecting. The people who claim they moded and didn’t use backups and had been banned are lieing. There are Xbox Live detection logs to prove they are only using detection against poorly stealthed backups.

IS that a stream from the live servers, or a map of what the drive is being told to do? It looks like it’s commands sent to the drive, then the dash checks validity. Still, the commands come from somewhere, so it would be M$ issuing the commands.
Nice find in any case, a more in depth look at what they’re doing.
If its not the firmware M$ are clocking onto, its the backups they are spotting, how do you know if your games are poorly stealthed or not? some games could be very well stealthed and able to play but how could I tell? there isnt realy a way is there :/
That is a good question, because iXtreme only plays STEALTH backups, so now, what level is stealth is there? Apparently there is a problem with some stealth backups.
Badly Stealthed games are being detected and those consoles are being banned… you can test how good of the stealth is by using xdvdmulleter… google it

firmware but m$ will most likely do something about the fw in the fall update on dec 4th but if ur playing real games n not backups u shouldn’t get banned

You still need a VALID KEY, from an unbanned XBOX360, you can’t just make up a key. Then, if you get banned, the other console you stole the KEY from will also be banned as the result, because to M$, they are the same console.
That was what you had to do with XB1, edit the EEPROM, and use the EEPROM from a console that was not banned, but, then now you have two identical consoles. If they happened to BOTH go on-line at the same time, then another ban is handed out.
You also need the INFECTUS chip to do this with XB360, and someone who is willing to give you their key, and I surely would not do it.
Ok, see here is the thing about that, I already knew this information and if you would let the people read, they would know it to. Besides it is irrelevant to me. I can get a valid key when ever I please. As for less talented people, it may be a bit harder.

I just flash a benq drive, when online and nothing happends. works great!!! I also have a samsung drive and works great too. Is definetly the backups. Make sure your backpus are steath ready….
USE DVD DECRYPTER YOU CAN CHANGE THE BOOKTYPE TO DVD-ROM!
AND MAKE EXACT 100% COPIES!

I am another hot headed person that had to edit my post for bad language, and one more time I will be banned from the site…….What I wanted to say was: Microsoft might stop us for a short time…..but we will hack it again….
Come on people…think about it. Firmware is available on the internet to anyone. You dont think microsoft flash there systems and run tests? I had my console banned 4 months and bought a new one!
I ONLY PLAY ORIGANAL GAMES ON LINE AND BACK UPS OFF LINE
AND NO PROBLEMS FOR 2 YEARS NOW.
Sort of related question, if you are banned from xbox live can you still get the system updates that some games require? do you just loose xbox live?
