Well, no real hacking news, so here goes some price war information.
Sony announced a $399 40GB PS3 for the US on October 17 while Microsoft confirmed that it would launch a new $279 Xbox 360 Arcade. The move is to increase price competition with the Nintendo Wii, which remains the cheapest of the new consoles at $250, for the crucial holiday season sales period.
While Microsoft hopes to challenge the Wii with the Arcade, its $349 Xbox 360 Premium faces pressure from the $399 PS3, which has a bigger 40-gigabyte hard drive, built-in wi-fi and a Blu-ray drive.
“I think Microsoft almost has to cut the price of the Premium or bundle it with some games,” said Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. He said the only surprise in Sony’s announcement was the inclusion of the Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray disc in the package.
The Financial Times reports that the $399 PS3 will be available on November 2.
Well, there you have it a PS3 down to the original Xbox360 Premium price, and they can only go lower. The Wii, in my opinion, is not quite worth the 249.99 price tag for the technology, or lack of. It is a fun family console, but not for the hardcore gamer.
No price drops reported for the Wii either, and they’re still selling out.

I noticed one of the things not mentioned is that Sony are taking Out All Backwards compatibility for PS2 and PS1 games in their new PS3’s
i heard that after the 60gb, sony was taking out the backwards compat for ps 1/2 games, is that true? and if so will the 40gb be without it too?
There was no mention Sony was taking out backwards compatibility. What they DID remove, was the HARDWARE, and made it 100% software emulation. If you have a USA/JAP 20GB or 60GB console, you have hardware emulation, as they have the EE and GS chips on-board. All other regions got software emulation, an all new models in USA/JAP are now software emulation too. Sony will continue to support both the hardware and software backward compatibility. Sony only saved $30.00 per console by removing the EE from the motherboards. From what I read, only the 40GB model comes without a, memory card reader, only two USB ports, and no PS2 backward compatibility. Is this the pricepoint Sony needed to hit to finally make the PS3 affordable? I think it’s stupid, because it is SOFTWARE emulation now, and should name make a difference in price. That would mean that there has to be SOME kind of hardware on the PS3 to support the BKWD COMP software, so a 399.99 console would have anything to do with the backward compatibility, removed. It can’t just be a software thing then.
i already had a stupid ps3 and that thing broke after leaving it on for 1 day striaght. i will not by another one until someone can confirm that this ps3 doesnt have the overheating problem.

The reason I say this is because you always say you had a PS3 when we all know you didn’t. If you did, it wouldn’t have broken. You’re more likely to have a 360 broken in 30 minutes than have a PS3 break in 3 years. Stop talking bullshit about consoles you don’t have you fanboy. STFU and GTFO the computer.

ok now i no i got nothing to do with the like release of cheaper consoles but i need some mager help i dont have a clue what to do if some one would add me to there msn and talk me though it that would be great but not very likley so if any one would just tell me the best tools to use that would be great thx remember we all were news a 1 point thx
