Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn’t released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here’s your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 — the Xbox 360 v2, if you will — codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won’t just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it’s also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don’t yet know, just as we also don’t yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it’ll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we’d be able to get them “soon.”
Interesting news tidbit… Although it’s a shame HDMI wasn’t initially supported. Drats!

everyone expexts their system to last at least 5 years- they are going to have alot of pissed off people if they do this
wow this could be the best or the worst thing Ms has ever done. there will be alot of very pissed off people out there who already have the 360 (me included) and alot of very happy people who waited, MS better do somthing special for us gen1 360 owners or billy gates is gonna get a foot up the ass cuz sadly we arnt all made of money like he is and can buy a new console evey time theres a few updates its just bull sh!t
I dont believe MS would do this. There’s no way they would hype up sales of the old xbox360 for the holidays and then pull this on all those poor people who just shelled out $400. If they do release this 9 million people will be pissed off. There has been speculation that a larger hard drive, the 65mm chip, the HDMI cable and even possibly the HD-DVD drive. Well let’s see, if MS is selling shitty 360s for $400.. the new guys will be at least $400 and probably $600 if they add the drive.
Realistically if MS is going to do anything it will be releasing an adapter for HDMI input. Nice pics but just not feasible.

fakest thing ever come on y u think they made a HD dvd play for the 360 which is sold seperet and didnt bother with HDMI which is the same thing as HD just not running at 1080p i dont think microsoft is dum enough to make a 2nd 360 thats the lamest thing ive herd

every company denies any rumours on products that get leaked out before they’re ready to be shown…that’s not to say it’s false…anyone who’s angry that a new ‘enhanced’ xbox might be coming out when they bought the original should only be angry at themselves…you knew what you were paying for and you paid to play it before anyone else that waits before they buy. sony came out with a cheaper and slimmer PS2 after a while…even stores have bundled xbox 360s with a couple of games and a lower price to drive more sales. should people who bought the system on day 1 with no games included be angry about that? new consoles generally have a lifespan of about 5 years before a newer system comes out. during those five years, expect to see companys offer lower priced or enhanced systems to keep steady sales. check out engaget’s site to see that they might release an enhanced xbox 360 later on in 2007 that can support IPTV. I bought the xbox 360 on day one along with the PS3 and Nintendo Wii because I like to be one of the first that plays next gen games and I’ll most likely get the newer Xbox system when it comes out…
Why would you be pissed, if you have a gen 1 360? I have one and to be honest with you i would not be pissed if this happens. How many of you out there have 1080P capable tv’s? I know I don’t yet. And even if I did I can not afford the size that 1080p needs to show a distinction from 720p sources. Every place (Cnet, Ign, audioholics, home theater mag…) states that if you want to see a true difference in picture quality over 720p you need 55″ +. I have purchased all next-gen systems on day one solely because I love entertainment hardware and will spend the premium to have better equipment then the next guy. Now when I am able to afford (after buying the Wii and PS3) to purchase a new SXRD (or I will wait for SED) TV then I will definetly make the jump to the new HDMI equiped Xbox 360. Also, you need to think of this, that with the IPTV feature coming soon, we as consumers and adopters of the Xbox brand need both bigger space and the ability to have a HDCP digital signal going to our TV and as of right now ANA (chip in 360) only outputs in Analog. Don’t be upset, revel in the fact that you have had the 360 and have played awesome games before these lame people waiting to see if any changes happen. I don’t know about you but i wouldn’t have waited to buy a PS2 until the slim-model came out.
