January 2, 2007Xbox 360 Running Linux/Mac/Homebrew?

Not totally blown out of proportion is a video of a masked German hacker who demonstrates the possibility of running homebrew on the Xbox 360. Throughout the duration of the clip you’ll notice King Kong boot followed by a short delay and a custom screen with both the Mac logo and Linux penguin, it reads “Coming Soon.” The hacker uses an attached circuit board (to the 360) and laptop to achieve this; I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether or not it’s legit. At the moment we should probably consider this speculation, but it’s something to keep our eyes on. :)

I heard that the linux kernal was also booting??????
YES IT IS BOOTING!!! BUT THEY HAVE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH IT STAYING STABLE!!
That was stupid. He probably booted something off that hardware he had on his lap. Should of showed us a close up of what he was doing after the king kong screen went black.
Those who followed hacking discussions might remember hackers did some research around the vector shaders in the King Kong demo on the Xbox 360 Kiosk Disc (that ran from recordable media). The demo (and final game too) allow to modify the shaders (they are not checked/signed). However no exploit to take control of the machine was found back then … so either this hacker found something here, or he’s just showing us his custom modified shaders ;)
That’s all the details we got for now.
