June 27, 2006Xbox Live on Dial-up
Posted by greg
Well, apparently I’m a slacker and this has been posted in our forums for quite awhile. Nonetheless this will probably address those who wonder if it’s possible. I also haven’t seen it posted anywhere else… While many of you are probably aware of this method/trick – here’s a quick and easy guide anyway…
Thanks to psphackr for bringing this to my attention, and providing this quick guide to Xbox Live over dial-up.
1. An Xbox/360 (regular xbox requires a hub)
2. An ethernet cable
3. computer with at least Windows 98 SE and ethernet network and dial-up internet access.Procedure:
1. Make sure the ethernet cable is run from the Xbox/360 to the computer and the Xbox/360 is powered on.
2. Connect to the internet on your computer.
3. When you are connected, at the bottom-right corner of the screen you should see an icon with two computers. Right-click on it and click on status, then click properties, then click advanced on the top of the window. There should be something that says something about sharing an internet connection with other devices on the network. Check the box next to it, then hit okay. Hit okay in the next box. Sometime you may have recieved a message telling you to reset the computer. Just ignore it and click ok. Now go to your xbox and click join xbox live, or just sign in if you already have a gamertag (broadband at friends house, etc.)If you did everything correct you should be able to connect. Now enjoy your new Xbox Live subscription and your 1 month free Gold account!
This will also work with other network devices such as a wireless router for your psp, etc., but you may also need a hub for them too.
Sincerely,
psphackr.
Reportedly lag isn’t all that bad in some cases…

Well unlike most of you, I am grateful for this, Because only i can get Dial up so its a win win for me. THANKS LOTS!
this is horrible news, as this will cause major laggg when playing against people on broadband especially DOA4 and i dont see the point since dial up cost the same as broadband.
ok if u have dial up and want the updates- other than that i cant see you having much fun if you cant get a game
eww dude, i would throw my xbox away if i had to play on dial up
Ya that shit is lame, there is enough people laggin the out of games, like on COD2 and pretty much all the racing games.
This is great news for those who cant afford dsl or any other fast internet connection. Im included!
I wouldnt even call this news its been known before xbox live was even invented… its good for people who want arcade games or patches who are on dial up! i would hate to play online with this tough!
id like to see you play dead or alive…. the ultimate lagslag!
Well I dont live in a area that i can get broadband so i will be trying it. Only certain games lag alot anyways.
lol i knew it was possible, but very gay…
i can’t get broadband where i am, so i’m stuck with freakin dial-up, and i jsut got done messing around on there, and i can play uno perfectly fine on there, but everything else… that’s a whole different story
