June 27, 2006Xbox Live on Dial-up
Posted by greg
Well, apparently I’m a slacker and this has been posted in our forums for quite awhile. Nonetheless this will probably address those who wonder if it’s possible. I also haven’t seen it posted anywhere else… While many of you are probably aware of this method/trick – here’s a quick and easy guide anyway…
Thanks to psphackr for bringing this to my attention, and providing this quick guide to Xbox Live over dial-up.
1. An Xbox/360 (regular xbox requires a hub)
2. An ethernet cable
3. computer with at least Windows 98 SE and ethernet network and dial-up internet access.Procedure:
1. Make sure the ethernet cable is run from the Xbox/360 to the computer and the Xbox/360 is powered on.
2. Connect to the internet on your computer.
3. When you are connected, at the bottom-right corner of the screen you should see an icon with two computers. Right-click on it and click on status, then click properties, then click advanced on the top of the window. There should be something that says something about sharing an internet connection with other devices on the network. Check the box next to it, then hit okay. Hit okay in the next box. Sometime you may have recieved a message telling you to reset the computer. Just ignore it and click ok. Now go to your xbox and click join xbox live, or just sign in if you already have a gamertag (broadband at friends house, etc.)If you did everything correct you should be able to connect. Now enjoy your new Xbox Live subscription and your 1 month free Gold account!
This will also work with other network devices such as a wireless router for your psp, etc., but you may also need a hub for them too.
Sincerely,
psphackr.
Reportedly lag isn’t all that bad in some cases…

June 15, 2006Hitachi-LG Xtreme Firmware Released!
Posted by greg
Well it’s here – as promised, Commodore4eva has released his modified Hitachi-LG firmware for all those Xbox360 owners with the Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L DVD-ROM drive.
The procedure is relatively simple but still requires some technical know-how; everything is automated with the batch file included in the release. It will also create an automatic backup of your existing drive’s flash so you can easily restore whenever you please.
Quoted from Commodore4eva:
Here it is, the long awaited World first Xbox 360 backup firmware modification to boot game backups on Hitachi!
Features:
* Boots all Xtreme Xbox 360 backups
* Boots all Xtreme Xbox 1 backups supported by emulator
* Boots all Xbox 360 originals
* Boots all Xbox 1 originals supported by emulator
* Use on Xbox Live at own riskTechnical details:
* Reads Xbox 360 security sector from PSN 04FB1F (Layer 0)
* Reads Xbox 1 security sector from PSN 605FF (Layer 0)
* Flashes sector 9003e000 (Master Checksum)

* Flashes sector 90003000 (Custom Code)
* Flashes sector 90027000 (Challenge Response)Flashing your drive:
xtreme.bat automatically makes a backup of your dvd drive firmware called orig.bin.
Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
Ensure Hitachi drive is in ‘mode b’ either by two wire trick or slax linux boot cd
Go to Windows
Run xtreme.bat batch file from a dos prompt specifing drive letter eg “xtreme.bat g”
All done!
Run restore.bat to revert to original firmware eg “restore.bat g”Thanks to everyone at Xboxhacker.net for all their discussions. Thanks go to Seventhson for flashsec and memdump and Loser for firmcrypt, without these tools this would not be possible.
Hitachi drive seems to be less tolerant of dual layer media. Try a few times to boot a backup.
Firmware for 46 version will be released soon but I cannot test it. Code is offset slightly throughout the firmware.
*Note: This current hack only works on Hitachi-LG drives with firmware version 47D. Hitachi-LG 46D firmware owners will need to be patient – it’s to be released later on…
To determine the firmware version of your Hitachi-LG drive, crack open the case and look at the image [red circle] below:

June 14, 2006Update on Hitachi Xtreme firmware!
Posted by greg
Quoted yesterday from the man himself, commodore4eva – who is also responsible for the TS-H943 Xtreme firmware hack, has made it apparent the new Hitachi firmware will be released within a 48 hour period.
The firmware is 99% complete and just requires one more routine to test when I get back home. I will then port the 47 code over to the 46 version. This will be released within 48 hours time.
It will not require a full firmware update, only a few banks. You will not be required to save/inject your drive key but saving a copy is always best. The checksum will be set to zero for the firmware. Since I dont have a 46 drive you people will have to test and report. I will then look at the 59 version firmware. I have only been spending one hour a night due to real life and have been away for the past three days so please be patient. Assembling with a hex editor is not fun but it gets the job done.
