It seems that Halo 3 will be released some time in 2007, and there’s a trailer out in the Xbox MarketPlace.
LOS ANGELES–Microsoft officially unveiled Halo 3 during its E3 press conference today, and the company released a trailer for its highly-anticipated sequel on the Internet and its Xbox Live service. Halo 3 will be the first Halo game designed for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, and the importance to the company was highlighted by the fact that Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman and chief software architect, was on hand to help announce the game.
When the trailer was shown to the audience at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, where Microsoft held its annual games briefing, the crowd erupted. Halo 2 ended in a cliff-hanger, with the Master Chief, the hero of the Halo series, returning to Earth in the midst of a climactic battle between the Convenant, an alien coalition, and Earth’s defensive forces. The Halo 3 trailer begins with a slow shot of the dusty African plains. Wreckage litters the landscape, and a woman’s voice is heard. It’s Cortana, the artificial intelligent construct that is Master Chief’s chief ally. In brief, cryptic sentences, she talks about “being the source,” and she sounds like she may have been somehow combined with Gravemind, the intelligence behind the Flood, another alien menace. As the Master Chief enters into the frame, she says in a distorted voice, “I know you. Your past. Your future.”
Suddenly, Convenant Ghosts and battleships appear in the skies. The music swells, and in the distance, a huge hatch slowly opens in the ground. A bright beam of light begins to build, blinding the camera. Cortana then chimes in, “This is the way the world ends.” The Bungie logo then flashes on the screen, followed by the text: “Finish the fight in 2007.”
Bungie, the internal Microsoft studio that created Halo, also released the trailer onto the Internet, and a high definition version was put up on Xbox Live Marketplace, the online service available to Xbox 360 owners. To quote the accompanying text found on Xbox Live, Halo 3 is about Earth under Convenant rule: “With its defensive forces, all but obliterated, Earth has fallen to the unstoppable might of the Convenant. These alien occupiers have discovered something beneath the ancient African sands - something incredible… something Forerunner.” The Forerunners are an apparently extinct alien race that built huge artificial ringworlds called Halos, and the Halo games have focused on the mystery surrounding these strange objects.
The importance of a new Halo game for the Xbox 360 cannot be underestimated. The original Halo was a launch title for the first Xbox, and was easily the biggest hit, driving sales of that system. Halo 2, which launched in 2004, became a cultural event, with thousands of gamers lining up for hours for the midnight launch. Halo 2 made entertainment history by generating $125 million in sales in one day. However, Microsoft didn’t mention Halo 3 at all during last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, and fans had been left wondering when the software giant would finally drop the big news. Well, the waiting for news of Halo 3 has now come to an end. Now they’ll have to wait to 2007 for the game itself.

oh, and good luck fitting all the things you want on Halo 3 on a DVD DISK.
Halo 3 will be better than any of those PS3 titles mentioned. Some of those will even be on the 360. Don’t even mention the size of DVD discs because if Oblivion fits on it (I’ve heard it takes up 4 gb) then there’s no need to worry. Fuck MGS4 I’d rather have Gears of War anyday.

HaLo 3 is the smoothest game ever created, stunning graphic effect but due to a xbox problem, yellow Y function is to make game less smoother and to make appear artifacts in all screen.

i dont known about you guys but the ps3 is getting alot of bad press, not only its stupidly expesive and graphiclly not as superior as its hyped by sony, saying that you have more then 70% of the worlds population that would still buy the ps3 to only show off and sony is counting on that, i myself own a x360, the only reason i bought a 360 was purly for halo3 and the brilliant brilliant xbox live feature which ps3 wont have to a level that xbox has gone with thier service, if you are one of these loners that plays MGS4 or Resident Evil by yourself, then the PS3 its the machine for you as myself i would probaly buy the Wii before the PS3.
oh yeah and as for fitting a massive game on a dvd, its not as hard, a dvd can hold a max of 8.5Gb data, current games dont even hold 4GB of data and most of that is junk padded on the disk, the major skill that programmers can produce ispacking and re-inventing ways to make a file as small as possible, think about it windows xp its about 2.4GB windows vista around the 3.5gb halo2 4.5gb and halo 3 i would doubt it its more then 6 or 7gb as for sony good look getting ripped of with thie bluecrap disk which has not been in the market and has not been tested proparly, while dvd drives have been proven to be reliable and have more then enough space for game programmers.

I can’t wait for Halo 3 having been properly addicted to Halo 2. I hope it gets the respect it deserves though. When Halo 2 was released it was proper slated, but look at it now. Still the most popular game on xbox live after 19 months. When has that ever happened before?
So long as it gets online co-op play, then it’ll knock lumps out of ps3 (which I might get anyway).
By the way, Rallisport Challenge 2 was the biggest game I’ve seen so far at a little over 6 gig. But yeah, 8.5 gig should be plenty. Who needs 20 gig + for a game? What could you possibly put on there? You’d be waiting 6 years for the game to be programmed while the next-next-gen console will be released.
I love my xbox, and I love Halo: CE, don’t like the 360 and don’t like Halo 2, I’m just waiting to see what PS3 and Wii will come up with but know this about games and how blue ray will be used.
DVD=less data, and compressed, loading times will be higher due to decompression, and loading the content.
Blue Ray=30+gigs, and data doesn’t have to be compressed, and game data could be streamed, leaving the decompression and loading times, thing of the past.
Blue Ray does have an advantage there, or thing about the PC games that come in a CDROM that’s less than 700MB, and how when Installed it’s 3GIGS, that’s how it works, once Installed, loading times is almost nothing.

well playstation is going to have a downfall any way because they over price games and its going to be same as the psp but u can play it on ur tv wow big woop and the disks that there using they’ve been useing them since playstation1 like if u look on the back of ur disks and if there a wiered color than that is the disks that they are going to use. woopie and the system is going to be 700 witch is rediculess and every one is going to sell there psp’s to buy it so now there going to run low on money since the psp will be out dated pritty mutch playstation is advancing 2 quickly and not thinking about it the ps3 has dream cast downfall all over it

got a 360 and a ps3 the both have there good points ps3 being that its fully hi def and a higher processor the 360 halo3 and the layout of the in game messenger and ease of use but if you really dont know what to buy do what i did and buy both the only reason i gotmy 360 was for halo and there is no game on any system that compares on and offline o yeah forgot one turning point xbox live being 35 pounds a year and the ps3 being free
