Here is a cool homemade adapter and instructions for hooking your Xbox 360 up to a VGA computer monitor. WARNING: This could potentially damage some of the hardware involved if done improperly. As per usual anything you do is at your own risk.
Since getting the xbox 360, I’ve had it hooked up to my old 27″ RCA standard def TV. I believe the TV model is an RCA Crapola.
So I undertook to hook it up to a computer monitor (a 21″ Samtron) where at least I could get some decent resolution.
I took the cable that came with the Xbox360 and spliced it to an old VGA extender cable I had laying around.
here’s the pic of the Xbox360 pinouts:

They actually sell one of those vga adapters. Save yourself the “risk” of doing it yourself.
Well doctor obvious, those of us that are intelligent enough to make our own cables will do so, and save money at the same time.

Going through all of that trouble to make a VGA cable out of an existing HD adapter (which sells for $39 so you can sell it to some Core owner) when Microsoft sells a VGA adapter for $39 that doesn’t risk damaging your much more expensive HD monitor, $399 xbox, or voiding a warranty? Sounds like somebody just failed to do some research to find out that you can just buy a VGA adapter off the shelf. Also, with the official adapter, the 360 gives you all sorts of nice resolution options that aren’t available with the HD adapter.
What if i wanted to connect up my normal pc screen with the xbox 360? what type of vga cable will i need ? or will the one that you used work aswell?
