November 24, 2005Xbox360 Backwards Compatibility Update
Posted by greg
Xbox.com has released the first update towards the backwards compatibility on the Xbox360. For those unaware, the Xbox360 is able to emulate the original Xbox, allowing you to play several old Xbox games on your new sexy 360.
You can check out the current compatibility list here. Microsoft has stated they will continue to add support for additional games over time.
How do you get the Xbox360 emulation drivers on your console? You’ve got three methods:
- Update through Xbox Live!
This is the recommened option - your console will always be up-to-date with the latest emulation drivers supporting new games. You will however require a membership. - Download the file and burn a DVD or CD
- Order a disc by mail from Xbox.com - not available yet (coming December)
Follow the full instructions here.

has anyone checked to see how the 360 runs the backwards compatibility app when you burn it to disk instead of updating through live, because it might be possible to find a backdoor to porting linux to the 360 since i suppose that disk has to be signed by the 360
